It was my second year living on my own, and I rented a house off campus with a group of three college students.
Two of them I had never met before, and it turned out that both were only children from wealthy parents. They were used to all the groceries and chores magically being cared for by Mom. They even had large allowances still at age 19.
One of them had bought a bunch of bananas that came in a plastic bag. At first they were green, and she let them sit in their plastic bag on top of the fridge too long. Like, two weeks or so.
They had turned spotty, squishy, and brown. These bananas were dead.
So she brought her bag of bananas to me and asked a question in a very serious tone.
"Do you think that if I take these out of the bag, they'll turn yellow?"
She was 100% serious. I didn't even know what to say.
