The MBA admission process where football saved my day!

Hello! I am GIM 2020 graduate. I had my process on 15th Jan 2018. There were around 37-38 students for achievers round process that day.

We had to reach there by 8:30 where we were given introduction about the college and the process which was to be following. After documents verification we were given chance to attend a ongoing class with the other GIM students. In my class the topic taught was business legislative laws.

After the class we were given details about our how many groups were there and where we had to go for GD and WAT.I and other 7 were in there my panel and we had our GD and WAT at 11 AM. We were given 5 minutes to think and 12 minutes to present.

GD Topic: Should plastics be banned in India or not?

We were seated in a particular manner and each person from starting to end had been given one minute to introduce the topic. After the introduction the GD followed on why and how the plastic is harmful but shouldn't be banned due to its variable uses. The GD at one time was fish market and faculty had to intervene to make things clear. I spoke 3-4 points durring the time. At last everyone was given a minute to conclude and the order here was reversed as compared to introduction. I was 4th in my panel and so got much time to think on topic.

After the GD, in WAT we were given a page was were told to write our views on that topic. After the GD and WAT, the interview process began. It was found that if a person is engineer, he/she is asked technical questions.

For my interview, there were two panelist, one sir and other a ma'am . Lets call sir - S and ma'am - M

S: How are you Ravi, tell us something about yourself

R: Introduced myself stressing on my engineering, 11 months work ex and love for football

S: So an IT engineer, tell us how a class and object are different in C language

R: Answered (was prepared for technical questions)

S: What is inheritance and polymorphism? Give an example of each

R: Answered.

S: Explain waterfall model in software management

R: Explained them using example of app development.

All these technical questions were asked at a rapid pace not giving me time to think upon. Luckily, I was all prepared.

All this while, ma'am was checking my CV and file of my achievements.

M: Ravi, you have many academics achievements, what about extracurricular?

R: ma'am, I have some achievements in football and table tennis but were not enough documents to support them. So didn't put them.

M: What are your hobbies?

R: (with a grin) ma'am, football and reading novels.

M: Tell us about your favourite novel and why is it favourite

R: Told them about The kite runner by Khaled Hosseini and explained my point of view.

M: Do you know about Afghanistan crisis. If so, what is it?

R: answered them explaining the scenario in last some years ( was expecting this question as the kite runner revolved around that and had much emotional aspect around it)

M: So, you have worked at a wall clock mfg company. What were your role and duties?

R: Answered

M: Why GIM and why Goa?

R: Answered ( had prepared for this question thoroughly)

M: Any questions for us?

R: No ma'am

The interview went for around 15 minutes

After the first round of interviews, students were filtered and then 14 students were called for director's interview. I was selected.

In director's interview there were four panelist, all male including the director.

I was asked to introduce myself and then was cut short when I mentioned about my twin brother. It was fun as they were joking about whether I could give CAT exam in place of my brother or not.

Then one panelist asked about my graduation subjects. I named a few and he asked qns regarding them. The questions asked were like describe HTML, it's uses and how to create a website, difference between static and dynamic pages, between HTML and XML. What is PHP and server. How to make a good website.

While one was questioning other one was reading my file and another was continuously observing me.

After that question were asked about my work experience. Describing my job role, what did I do and how I completed my tasks.

Then they asked whether I had attended morning session or not. I nodded and they asked me to relate one of those law with my work. I talked about disclaimer and indemnity with regarding to my organization.

And now the real fun started ;)

Then they asked about my hobbies and i said watching and playing football. Luckily two of those were football fans like me and they tried to grill me by asking many questions. They asked about the match that was day before that day and what was scoreline, favourite player and coach, why them, then regarding transfers in football markets, whether the amount paid for players was justifiable or not. We had a healthy discussion about it. It was like a banter :)

After that they asked about why GIM and then why did I wanted to pursue MBA after engineering. I explained them my career objective. Then they asked about my long term goal, I said being Gujarati I want to have my own business firm in future and they all were laughing hard.

The interview got over finally after 20-25 minutes. I was then called after 5 minutes and they handed me the spot admission offer.

The overall process was smooth and at the end of day they gave spot offers to 4 students.

That was all.

Cheers!
