Here in Quebec we have some pretty unique eating habits / meal choices that you don’t really find in the rest of the country. I won’t mention Poutine since that’s pretty much available everywhere. But realistically, the moment you leave Montreal and go to any diner in any town you’ll probably spot some of these:
Pizzaghetti
It’s a small pizza, cut in half, with a serving of spaghetti and meat-sauce in the middle. I guess it’s perfect for people who can’t make up their mind if they want pizza or pasta tonight. Literally never seen anyone ever order this but it’s widely available.
Le Spaghetti
Speaking of pasta, if you got to pretty much any restaurant in smaller town Quebec, regardless of the type of restaurant, or how classy, it’s a fair bet you can see “spaghetti” on the menu. No context. No description. Right next to sushi. Just “Spaghetti” for about $10–15 bucks. Everywhere you go it’s also the same thing - spaghetti with an arbitrary meat sauce.
Guedille
Basically lobster, cabbage, mayo, and some other stuff, crammed into a hot dog bun. But wait - there’s also versions that use chicken, ham, shrimp, and even some that are literally just cut up bits of hotdog slathered in mayo shoved in a bun.
Pate Chinois
It’s kind of like Shepherds pie but we call it Chinese Pie for no discernible reason. I think it’s the same way that a lot of old-timey Quebecers might call any non-Quebecer of ambiguous ethnicity “Chinois” or “Chinese” because they have no clue where the person is from. Kind of like I suppose no one has any clue why this dish is named this way (kidding).
All Dressed Chips
Arguably the greatest flavour in the world. Taste that sweet, sweet vinegar with every bite.
