QLet me introduce you to my future daughter in law.

My son, his girlfriend, my partner and I had just watched Captain Phillips (2013 movie). For those of you who are not familiar with it. It's based on a true story about a cargo ship being hijacked by pirates.

I went to the bathroom only to hear my partner shouting ," Kelley! Kelley, you gotta hear this!"
So I hurried to see what all the fuss was about. "
Katie, tell her what you just told us " My son already had his head in his hands.
"It's his fault. He told me it was a true story!"
"It is."
"Well I thought that was the real ship and people."
"What, a documentary?"
"Yes. He said it was true!" Pointing at my partner who is creased up on the couch. My son was shaking his head, willing her to stop talking.
"Well didn't Tom Hanks give it away? You think he stopped being a Hollywood actor to try his hand at being a Captain? And they just happened to have a film crew on board but never stopped them?"

After some time explaining the difference between
based on true events and documentaries, we thought she understood. Until...."So Titanic didn't really happen. Jack didn't die in the end?"

Within a week I was explaining why cats don't actually have 9 lives and why the past wasn't really in black and white.

You couldn't make up this stuff.

Welcome to the family!
