Some outstanding answers already posted, so I don’t know if I can add much. Absolutely, God has set you free from bondage, the bondage of sin, and the bondage of religion. You have one Law to follow:

37 And He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect). [Deut. 6:5.]

38 This is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment.

39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself. [Lev. 19:18.]

The Amplified Bible (La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation, 1987), Mt 22:37–39.

Any activity should be held up to this standard. God is a jealous God. He would love you to want to spend every second of the day in His presence. But He also knows we need to interact with people, build friendships, and enjoy Creation.

With that said, I will share my experiences. As a young man, I got caught up in the Dungeons & Dragons craze. It was brand new and fascinating to me. I love history, especially the Dark Ages, I was also a big fan of Tolkien’s writing, which D&D borrowed from extensively. I was introduced to it by an older, “nerdy” neighbor. My first experience was playing in a tournament where my character survived and I ended up taking home all sorts of D&D books and game stuff as part of the prize.

I introduced my friends to the game and many jumped on board. So between basketball and baseball games, we would play D&D. I learned all the gods, demons, monsters and it became a sort of religion. What I did not notice was that the more attention I spent with D&D, the less time I had for the Lord. And there are plenty of demonic themes, characters designed to produce fear. Fear is the very worst thing a Believer can dabble with as it undermines faith. If you are going to stand firm against the devil, you need to be full of faith and free of fear.

There are also many adult themes in the game. The women, were illustrated very voluptuously, and their back story often presented them as quite loose - not exactly what a young man needs to be thinking about. There are plenty of stimulating things in the real world to add even more to the imaginary one. I had more than one dream about a certain female character, and she sure seemed real in my dream.

Its these thoughts and dreams that will sap you of the ability to resist sin and temptation when it comes. And besides, as I found out, playing basketball was far more fun, and better preparation for the coming season. The Bible was far more powerful at preparing me for life, and all the challenges that naturally come along.

Now what if I had spent that time with the Word, and fellowshipping with the Father. I might have been better prepared to handle the many challenges that came my way as a young adult. Thankfully, I had a Spirit-filled Mother that prayed me away from danger on more than one occasion.

Start today talking with the Lord. Expect for Him to answer. Listen for that still small voice - or sometimes something greater. He is loving Father, so He wants you happy, and to feel at Liberty to enjoy life. He may even direct you to something far more exciting than some game. He is more eager for your success than even you. Think about that often. He is LOVE. And He LOVES YOU!
