What is an act of kindness you witnessed today?….Well, I have only seen the question today but the act happened a couple of days ago so I hope you forgive me, as it is, for me, absolutely amazing.

This act started on 4th of Feb (it’s the 8th as I write this) when my mobility scooter was stolen from outside a friends home while I was visiting….A little history here to help explain why this act was so amazing. I have various health issues that mean without my scooter I am practically housebound. I am also a full time carer for my severely disabled husband and have recently started caring for my brother after he had 5 strokes leaving him semi paralysed and unable to care for himself (at a different address).. Without my scooter I am unable to get to my brother to help.

So, on the 4th Feb my scooter was stolen while visiting a housebound friend and dropping of some bits she had asked for. When I left to go home and realised my scooter was missing I walked the hundred yards/metres with my sticks to the local park where I found it vandalised beyond repair. I was so upset because I knew my husband and I didn’t have the money to replace it which meant my husband was also left housebound because he cannot go out alone due to brain damage and my brother was left without help (apart from nurse visits twice a day to dispense medication) because I could not get to him.

Ok, so the act of kindness and the reason for this story. I put a post on Facebook hoping for some idea of who stole my scooter and to let my friends know what had happened. On the evening of the 5th Feb I had an unexpected knock at the door and found two of my friends, who are also disabled, with a scooter that they and another disabled friend had clubbed together to buy, to replace my stolen and damaged one. I cannot describe how much it meant to me and how surprised I was that my friends had done this for me, it was amazing as are my friends (yes, I cried, bitches, lol).

Due to the post I have also found out who committed the theft/damage and am in process of dealing with that. The kindness (and help) I received was amazing. Thank you all so much for restoring my faith in human kindness.
