Both are really different.

The mouthwateringly diverse cuisine of Mexico is so exceptional that it has earned one of the most highly regarded titles available, awarded a spot on the exclusive representative list of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010. “Traditional Mexican cuisine is a comprehensive cultural model comprising farming, ritual practices, age-old skills, culinary techniques and ancestral community customs and manners.”

I like to think of Mexican food as Native American cuisine. The use of squashes, avocadoes, corn, tomatoes, cacao are all basic staples. Mexican cuisine is part of a culture that cannot be preserved in physical form. It gets passed down through generations and be carefully maintained.

Mexican food is incredibly diverse. From the coastal seafood, to the northern cabrito (goat), the central enchiladas, tacos and chiles rellenos to the Yucatecan Tikin xic. One would need a book to write all about Mexican food.

Mexican food abroad is mostly bad Tex-Mex, so I doubt people can judge it fairly unless they’ve been to Mexico.

Spanish food is something else. It’s Mediterranean and seafood based. But Spanish food is more diverse than people give it credit for. From gazpacho, jamon iberico, ternasco asado, longaniza, tapas, paella, cheeses, wine, calcots, Spanish tortilla, variety of seafood like mussels, octopus, tuna, cof there’s a lot of unpack and explore as well in every region. Unlike Mexican, Spanish is almost never spicy.

It is much healthier due to the use of the Mediterranean diet, fruits, veggies, olive oil, seafood and local produce.

Which one is better? they are too different to compare on the same level.

Tapas in the Mediterranean sound nice but so do authentic tacos in the Caribbean. Why not both?
