I absolutely do.

I so rarely get tipped. About 1 ride in 10. People would say how much they appreciate this or that, water, chargers, nice clean car, coming to pick them up in the middle of nowhere, but then they don’t tip!

Maybe folks think I would think less of them if they tip me just $1, but I don’t, it says you mean your ‘thank you’ and maybe you can afford only $1 extra, but that’s 25% boost on the $4 I make on a ride, so it is not nothing!

I sometimes accept long pickups. Uber throws in couple cents a mile on that, but its very little. I would think it deserves a tip, but I am more likely to find people mildly annoyed at the long wait. As if it was my failure that I, the nearest driver to them, was 17 minutes away when they called.

I have never cancelled a ride after learning where I am being asked to drive, even if it is to the proverbial middle of nowhere which means I will have to return back to populated areas on my own time and gas. Tip? Nope.

And then there are people who leave stuff behind: car keys, wallet, purse. Only one person tipped me. Did others think Uber pays the driver to bring back stuff they left? Hell, no! If you leave stuff behind in my car it’s a private matter between you and me. The return is totally on my own time, my own gas. I could throw your things out the window and say I’ve never seen them, save myself trouble, but I would never do that! Nor would I hold your things hostage and say I will return them if you reimburse me for my time and gas. However, that some people don’t feel a need to do so on their own is … a bit disappointing.
