  1. Wrong. You are NOT paying US appropriately for the short ride, and neither is Uber.
  2. You are not entitled to a ride. No one is, as we are NOT employees and this is NOT a public conveyance like a bus.
  3. Drivers LOSE MONEY on those short rides. Drivers DO NOT get a percentage of what you pay—for short rides they get two bucks, the “min fare” otherwise, we are only being paid BY THE MILE.
  4. Because drivers are not paid for the drive to pickup the passenger, the total cost of operating their vehicle usually exceeds what they get paid for the short ride.
  5. Then there is the time involved. We are paid by the mile, and only with a passenger. These short rides end up taking 15 to 20 minutes—a total waste of our time. And even if we didn’t consider the cost of operating our vehicle, that means we are only grossing $6 an hour. WAY less than minimum wage. Once you subtract the operating cost, we are working for free.
  6. Riders doing short rides don’t tip, or if they do, they tip a buck. ??! A minimum tip here is $5, for reasons that should be obvious.
  7. It no longer matters here in California, because to keep us as independent contractors Uber is showing us the total information on the ride before we accept. Guess what? I am not accepting any rides that are less than 10 miles. WHY? Because I have bills to pay, and I am not a charity for your rides that are so short you should WALK.
  8. I am not going to lose money just to take your “don’t want to walk” attitude a few blocks. You are not entitled to a ride.
