You can find out if your Instagram account has a shadowban by looking at your previous posts. Has their reach and engagement dropped from ‘normal levels’? Note that this is easier to do with a business account because of the insights available.
Typically shadowbans (Instagram claims these don’t exist) are caused by excessive automation, using the same hashtags for posts over and over again, and/or poor quality followers on your page.
To get out of a shadowban, you can do these things (one or all):
- stop all activities besides manually posting for 4-5 days. This includes any automations, powerlikes, DM groups and post schedulers
- boost a post. This one isn’t proven but I’ve had success with it before where it tells the algorithm that you have a valid account and ‘kicks’ you out of the shadowban
- remove ghost followers. These are followers who aren’t engaging with your posts, have 0 posts, over 1000 following (they’re unlikely to see your posts so won’t be engaging with them), no profile image, etc. This should be a normal routine for your profile page regardless of being shadowbanned or not
- if you find that you keep getting shadowbanned, stop EVERYTHING. No posting, engaging, stories, etc. for 3–4 days, then resume.
Good luck!
