We signed up for child birthing classes. Then I went into labor at 30 weeks and spent the next 6 1/2 weeks confined to bed. All the well-planned classes were out the window.
No internet then so my husband had no idea what to expect when I was wheeled into the labor room. He bravely stood beside me, holding or patting my arm. I say bravely because he was sure I’d burst a blood vessel but stayed calm and reassuring.
Many, if not most, newborns have a slightly pointed head. He didn’t mention his concerns to me but the next day when he saw her rounded head, he sat down heavily on a chair. He’d been sure her pointed head held grave and unfortunate significance. No internet and he didn’t want to worry me by asking.
Now that I think about it, the entire process was probably as difficult for him as it was for me. Labor only lasted 4 hours but my husband was in a deep state of worry from the beginning of labor until the next day, yet maintained a calm, supporting exterior which was a tremendous help.
