Well, here’s an interesting story for you.
So back when I started Quora, in spring of 2016, I was a very active user, like all new quorans, I would just write little answers that would give a concise answer, like yes or no, but with no explanation, like this one
Alec Zhang's answer to Which jutsu from Naruto would be most useful for an average person to use?
and many more like that. Then, I started wanting to write better answers, with more up votes and views. So I started writing lengthier Quora answers, about nothing else but Anime(specifically Naruto, I read a lot of Naruto in that era, and I’m still a fan of the series). So that got me slightly better responses, and I started adding pictures.
okay, so adding a picture doesn’t always help, but it gives something to look at in the sea of words, at least for me, so by doing this,
I went from averaging something like 5 up votes, to 10–15 for a decent answer. But of course, it was a picture of an anime scene, not just some cute dog. So I started to write more and more, taking up tons of my time, and I would go write 2–3 answers per day, and trying to write in high quantity and in quality was extremely time consuming, so school got harder.
So after that, I stopped writing so much, and tried to focus on quality. Also using bolds and italics. This started getting me higher up votes, around 30–40 up votes per anime answer.
now I haven’t mentioned this much, but writing in a extremely secluded community, like in the Anime-manga section, is difficult to be popular. You must write a lot of big, flashy, informational answers, in a way that people can understand your argument, and you won’t have people chucking you shit in the comments, about plot holes and whatever.
So I kept writing like this, and eventually, I was getting around 50–60 up votes per answer for a while. I was number one in the Topic, Naruto. Along with number 2 in Anime. But then terror struck.
My school blocked Quora. MY ONLY FORM OF PROCRASTINATION AND WASTING TIME, GONE!!!!
So I just gave up, and spent time studying. My grades got better, so that was nice. But then, I was so bored on day, so I tried to go on quora, and it worked.
So apparently, some people could access Quora, but others couldn’t. So I started writing again. starting slow, but getting more and more up votes per answer, along with more views. I was writing good answers much more commonly (well, at least in my eyes)
But eventually, my friends started reading my answers *cough* *cough* (Jason Xu) *cough* *Asshole*. (by the way, Jason was good writer, he had around 30k up votes, along with 300k views on this one answer).
So, me only writing in Anime, it was just stupid to hear the answer I wrote out loud, so I just stopped writing on Quora in general. Only coming back at times to check notifications, around every 2 weeks or so.
So through all of this, I went from tons of answers, to once every day or 2, to just stopping in general, in fact, the last answer I wrote before this one was this.
So yeah, hope that answer your question… holy crap this was long.
