I am still witnessing it and it’s so bad. Act of sexism or maybe gender preference and expectation.

My very close friend still lives at home with her parents. She has a younger brother. She is almost 30 and the boy is just about 22.

She is expected by her parents especially her mum to take care of him as he is a man! Before she leaves home for work every morning she does house chores alone, i mean all the chores, prepares his food and even remind him of his oral hygiene before eating! I always thought she was exaggerating until the day i slept in their house.

As she was doing the chores her mother came out to ask if she had woken her brother up to start preparing for work, when she replied No, she screamed ”Do you want him to go late to work? Why are you like this?” i mean, i died on the spot. She must ask the boy what he wants to eat at all times because a man is not supposed to enter the kitchen or do chores according to their family dictionary.

My father cooks at home, my brothers cooks and does all the house chores so i can not wrap my head around their family palava.
