‘How To Save A Life’ by the Fray is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard and it holds special meaning for me. A friend of mine committed suicide and I was the last person he ever called. I didn’t even realise something was wrong.

But in this song, the person does.

According to lead singer Issac Slade the song was composed and influenced by his experience while working as a mentor at a camp for troubled teens:

He was asked about it in an interview and this is what he said “One of the youngsters I was paired up with was a musician. Here I was, a protected suburbanite, and he was just 1

According to lead singer Issac Slade the song was composed and influenced by his experience while working as a mentor at a camp for troubled teens:

He was asked about it in an interview and this is what he said “One of the youngsters I was paired up with was a musician. Here I was, a protected suburbanite, and he was just 17 and had all these problems. And no one could write a manual on how to save him.”

Slade also says that all the people who tried to help the kid were unsuccessful. And that is what the song is about. As Slade says in an interview, the boy's friends and family approached him by saying, "Quit taking drugs and cutting yourself or I won't talk to you again," but all he needed was some support. The boy was losing friends and going through depression. He lost his best friend and could not deal with it. The verses of the song describe an attempt by an adult to confront a troubled teen. In the chorus, the singer laments that he himself was unable to save a friend because he did not know how.

That being said, the band has left the song open for interpretation.

And pray to God he hears you
And I pray to God he hears you

These lines are the most touching for me. Slade could either mean that he prays that God hears you and saves this person. Or he could mean that he prays that this person hears you out and understands that feeling pain is better than feeling nothing at all.

Take care :

Essentially it means the same thing, although there is a shade of potential difference.

“I am very grateful to them" means that your gratitude is directed toward them.

“I am very grateful that they saved his life" is more open-ended, as it is not specifically dIrected at anyone. You could be grateful to them for their actions, and/or you could also be grateful to God for working things in such a way that they were able to intervene.

Ooooooh, this is a juicy saying!

Let’s unpack its meaning by first tackling the concept of “burning a bridge.” In English/American parlance, it means “destroying a connection that may be needed later.”

A good example of someone burning a bridge is cursing out a boss on the last day of work: not only would one not be welcome back at that company, but the boss would give only bad recommendations to future job prospects, and co-workers would distance themselves from anyone showing such poor judgment.

However, the notion that “Sometimes you get the best light from a burning bridge” indicates that the

However, the notion that “Sometimes you get the best light from a burning bridge” indicates that there are situations where cutting off the connection is the best thing possible, as in the case of abusive relationships. So, a wife leaving an abusive husband would get “the best light” (insight) from the “burning bridge.”

Thanks for this saying - it’s wonderful!

Most car insurance companies are kind of banking on you not noticing that they’re overcharging you. But unlike the olden days where everything was done through an agent, there are now several ways to reduce your insurance bills online. Here are a few ways:

1. Take 2 minutes to compare your rates

Here’s the deal: your current car insurance company is probably charging you more than you should be paying. Don’t waste your time going from one insurance site to another trying to find a better deal.

Instead, use a site like Coverage.com, which lets you compare all of your options in one place.

Here’s the deal: your current car insurance company is probably charging you more than you should be paying. Don’t waste your time going from one insurance site to another trying to find a better deal.

Instead, use a site like Coverage.com, which lets you compare all of your options in one place.

Coverage.com is one of the biggest online insurance marketplaces in the U.S., offering quotes from over 175 different carriers. Just answer a few quick questions about yourself and you could find out you’re eligible to save up to $600+ a year - here.

2. Use your driving skills to drop your rate

Not every company will do this, but several of the major brand insurance companies like Progressive, Allstate, and Statefarm offer programs that allow you to use a dash cam, GPS, or mobile app to track your driving habits and reduce your rates. You just have to do it for a month typically and then they’ll drop your rate.

You can find a list of insurance companies that offer this option - here.

3. Fight speeding tickets and traffic infractions

A lot of people don’t realize that hiring a lawyer to fight your traffic violations can keep your record clean. The lawyer fee oftentimes pays for itself because you don’t end up with an increase in your insurance. In some cities, a traffic lawyer might only cost $75 per infraction. I’ve had a few tickets for 20+ over the speed limit that never hit my record. Keep this in mind any time you get pulled over.

4. Work with a car insurance company that rewards you for your loyalty

Sticking with the same car insurance provider should pay off, right? Unfortunately, many companies don’t truly value your loyalty. Instead of rewarding you for staying with them, they quietly increase your rates over time.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Some insurers actually reward long-term customers with better deals and additional perks. By switching to a company that values loyalty - like one of the loyalty rewarding options on this site - you can enjoy real benefits, like lower premiums, better discounts, and added coverage options tailored just for you.

5. Find Out If Your Car Insurance Has Been Overcharging You

You can’t count on your car insurance provider to give you the best deal—they’re counting on you not checking around.

That’s where a tool like SavingsPro can help. You can compare rates from several top insurers at once and let them pitch you a better price.

Did you recently move? Buy a new car? Get a little older? These changes can mean better rates, and SavingsPro makes it easy to see if switching providers could save you money.

All it takes is a few minutes to answer these questions about your car and driving habits. You’ll quickly see if it’s time to cancel your current insurance and switch to a more affordable plan.

These are small, simple moves that can help you manage your car insurance properly. This song was released while i was in rehab and seemed to be playing on radio in the booze bus every night as we were driven to 12 step meetings. The lyrics and emotion remoned me SO MUCH of the conversations people had with me where they tried to confront me over my using and the pain in their eyes at watching someone they loved slip away.

The song means just that, how to save a life. This song has an emotional framework. The song is seemingly about a friend's suicide. In so many words the song states if he had stayed up all night he could've saved his friend's life. The way the lyrics are laid out provides a connection for a lot of people to the fact that this guy wasn't able to save his friend, because he didn't know-how. So many of us can relate in one way or another. Whether it is saving someone from a bad relationship or death.

Traditionally, “A life for a life” has been considered the reason for giving someone the death penalty for murder (you took a life—we take your life). It is puzzling when someone says, “A life for a life” after you thank them for saving your life. It could possibly mean that the person feels that you saved their life at one time—either literally or figuratively. Maybe you spent some quality time with the person when it was most needed. Some people have been saved from suicide this way. Or maybe simply being there for them at various times gave the person more quality of life. If you don’t thin

If you don’t think that these things would apply, perhaps, the person was unaware of the usual meaning of this expression and thought of it as an appropriate reply. Actually it’s difficult to think of an appropriate reply to “Thank you for saving my life.” “You’re welcome” seems inadequate. “No problem” seems silly.

To me it means that life is still going to have ups and downs. That it is not going to be all skipping down the garden path with a red cap and a basket. That being alive with its ups and downs is still a gift. And you still should enjoy it for all it is worth.

They mean virtually the same thing. The only slight difference is that the first sentence includes both the possibility that the life-saving just occurred or else may have happened in the past. The second sentence more definitely depicts the life-saving as having just happened.

At first glance, the two sentences did seem to say the same thing. Then I noticed that with “I am very grateful to them for saving his life,” it is possible that they are still engaged in processes that preserve his life. The other sentence, “I am very grateful that they saved his life,” is clearly gratitude now about life-saving actions completed in the past.

Please note that neither of the two sentences is a question. One question mark at the end of your question, after the last closing quote, would be correct punctuation.

(Crikey, the temptation to be facetious is really, really strong…)

It is a love song. About love. About the warmth you feel inside when you are with your beloved. Probably while enjoying a candlelit moment or a frolic next to a campfire on a beach.

It’s not about having a... burning sensation down below.

Unlike this song, which is.

I personally think this song is about someone having a friend or a loved one addicted to drugs. But I also think it's about suicide and not "saving" that person from taking their life and I think it can be viewed either way. When it says
"
Between the lines of fear and blame
you begin to wonder why you came."
It's between almost 10 years since its release but this song has always somehow stayed fresh in my mind. :)

People give gifts as a way of showing thoughtfulness, love and affection. When we give gifts, it brings joy or pleasure to the receiver. In addition, giving gifts is something which usually makes us feel good .. that, in my opinion, is the gift of giving, the joy & pleasure it brings to another.

There really ARE “eternal flames” in various places, like John F. Kennedy’s grave in Arlington Cemetery. The flame there never goes out, and will burn forever.

When Susannah Hoffs wrote this song, she was using that eternal flame as a symbol for undying love. She’s asking the man she loves if he feels the same way about her.

The original meaning is positive— this is a gift that is so wonderful, every time I use it I will feel like I have just received it again; it always has something more to give to me.

But yes, sometimes the expression is used negatively or sarcastically, as Curt says— something very bad like a venereal disease “given” you would continue to “give” itself to other people.

In the very last moment of 2016, I heard of the song once again on national TV to celebrate another year coming, and I see myself so much wish to recover my hope and my will so that I shall find excitement in life. There’s one of my dear friends said to me: “Heaven is on earth baby”. And there I can totally understand the whole meaning of the song.

Especially, the ending of it now speaks to me more than ever.

“May we all have our hopes, our will to try
If we don't we might as well lay down and die
You and I.”

I want to truly live, and be happy. Sounds so simple, yet difficult, I have to, no, I must keep looking up and try.

So I promise to myself, for whatever happens, I shall find a way to hope and be the best version of me. That’s why life will so interesting to live and there’s a famous Japanese quote — “Fall down 7 times, get up 8”. Now say it with an attitude!

Metaphors are always open to interpretation so this is just mine. Burning bridges means taking actions which cannot be undone. I interpret this sentence to mean that sometimes when you have taken a step with unavoidable consequences your future course of action can become clearer because your judgement is no longer clouded by indecision. What's done is done so you can focus on your next move.

None other than the popular “Boom, boom, boom, boom!” By Vengaboys.

This song was a popular choice in almost every dance function and popular event where kids had to dance on stages. Every new year celebration in schools or colonies would see a perfectly choreographed dance by small kids on this song.

Now that I look back at the lyrics, let's just hope this boom boom has a more literal, innocent meaning to it that I don't know of yet.

The phrase "the gift that keeps on giving" is used to describe something that continues to provide benefits or advantages over an extended time. It can refer to a tangible object, such as a high-quality tool or appliance, or an intangible quality or situation, such as a skill or experience. The phrase is often used in a positive way to describe something that has enduring value.

Profile photo for Ronald De Saran

I think the phrase is more about love and learning. If you give love to another then that person keeps on getting the love feeling for a very long time.

It is more like - “give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him to fish and he eats every day.”

The gift of teaching someone will help that recipient forever.
