Is there a way to maintain the popularity of labor unions without mandating them monopoly powers? Nope is like voluntary 3 small bussiness in small town create a collusion which keep the price of a product above a price level(for example 4$ for a loaf of bread ) but that alliance is vulnerable in ‘’Prisoner's dilemma’’(because one of 3 companies can break this rule and charge the loaf of bread in 2.50$ and then all three companies will charge this lower price for being competitive and consumer pocket is little better ) and if town face foreign competition is completely impossimble to force all companies to keep the same price (one reason why economists support free trade) . To me labour unions are like business cartels namelly both are bad for consumers and other non-members of cartel(what happens to teenagers workers or immigrants from third world country?) and sadly the Anti-trust policy hunted only the one side and not the cartels of teachers in public school(that is problem both in USA and in my country Greece) or the labor unions who want new highway when the don’t fix the existing roads .
