Having the bride or grooms mother, girlfriend or anyone else think they are your boss too. Your actual clients are the couple. But… everyone thinks they are a planner these days. Everyone thinks they have just cause to email you “on behalf of the bride.” Everyone doesn’t. I call these “flies in the soup” in-laws and Outlaws. Why? Because they want to be in control and fight to find control.
The worst part of being a planner is dealing with people who need to sit down and listen rather than jumping up to suggest. They have no idea of the budget. They have no idea of what my client wants or needs. I do because it’s my job and because I’m very good at my job.
Last week, a bridesmaid emailed me 31 times regarding photos she found on Pinterest and what she thought I should consider. My time is precious. I juggle up to 15 and rarely more clients per month.
Treating every client like they are my only client is a requirement in this industry but, reminding every client that they aren’t my only client and warning them not to give my cell number to anyone and everyone who asks for it is a discussion that occurred AGAIN last weekend.
I don’t have time to deal with meddling bridesmaids or mothers. My hands are full dealing with vendors, drama and the unexpected. Without order there is chaos. I limit chaos intentionally.
