That would be Cameron because she was the counterbalance that House needed. House cared about the puzzle and was rude and abrasive, but not always, while Cameron cared about the patient and was kind and gentle, although not always, which made her an even better character.

House told Cameron exactly why he needed her, and by extension why the show needed her, when he went to get her to work for him again. He tells her “Hah. That’s good. And why I need you around. To keep me in my place.” The way House and Cameron approached medicine and patient care made them the best compliments for each other because they made up for each others flaws. The contrast between the two often helped to reach the final diagnosis while Cameron’s nature was effective in getting a patient’s consent.

I thought Cam had a very interesting dynamic with House and the rest of the fellows. The scenes between House and Cam ranged from combative to tender and were often illuminating in ways his scenes with the fellows and Cuddy weren’t. I thought she had the ability to bring out the best and worst in Foreman but they were equally as compelling. I also really like her scenes with Wilson and hoped to see more of them. They played really well off of each other and could’ve been the next best dynamic after House and Cam because I thought her interactions with Chase were the least interesting.

I don’t think Cam gets enough credit for how much value she brought to the show. The show feels colder whenever she’s not around and it gets a lot more cynical. I liked House for not being some schmoopy show like other medical dramas can get but I feel like it veered too far in the other direction plenty of times and Cameron was essential to maintaining the balance. She was different from the other characters which seems like a silly statement but I think only one of Foreman, Taub, and Thirteen were necessary. I often felt like they were interchangeable. Cam brought something that no other character could. They even tried to recreate her twice in Masters and Adams but they're not Cam.
