Harry/Hermione

Would you rather have a spouse who can stand up to you or someone who always feels inferior and would have to be constantly reassured/cuddled?

Harry and Hermione are equals. What he lacks in brains, he makes up for it in nerve, outstanding courage and skill. He actually cause Hermione to be na better witch--by encouraging her and by letting her know that he admires her skills more than she thinks. She's always surprised every time Harry compliments her and expects more from her, and while Ron has stated that he thinks the same.. I've always felt that Ron only says those things in order to make her feel better, and get with her. Harry does it because he genuinely believes it and it's coming from years of knowing and believing her.

Ron only respects Hermione when it suits him and when she's of use to him. He's as confused/frustrated with Hermione as Harry is so let's not pretend that he understands her more than our hero does, only that his hormones dictate that he be nicer to Hermione in order to get into her good side. Harry can be honest with Hermione and isn't scared to tell her when she's being in the wrong. Ron is mostly worried of getting into Hermione's bad side. He did say it himself in DH, all is fair in love and war ---when he chose to side with Hermione so that she'll forgive his past transgressions.

The Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione pairings are all hormone-driven plots, you take them out of Harry Potter and the story would still survive. Harry and Hermione getting together, having to separate because of Ron, and then finally deciding to be with each other (despite Ron's temper/heartbreak) would have been a more compelling read, especially during the Horcrux hunt. Take away the romantic air from Hermione and Harry and there'd still be friendship that'll motivate them to work together. Take away Hermione from Ron, and he would've still been resentful and bitter for not winning her hand. Ron isn't a bad guy, but he does bear grudges. You can practically see it from the way he acted in PoA and GoF. He grudgingly patch things up with his friends because there's just no other way, especially if he'd been proven wrong by them.

If there was going to be crack pairing that I wanted to happen, I'd pick Dramione over Romione any day.
