I have been a die hard Harry Potter fan since I was 5 I would ask for the dvd of each movie for Christmas and I started reading at a middle school level at the age of 7 so I could quickly read the books out of excitement. The first Fantastic beast movie was not that bad, but the reason I dislike both of the movies and hate the second is because It compromises the original series in a way Star Wars fans didn’t have to deal with. (not talking about Dumbeldore) As well as the movie is just messy. The original Harry Potter movies were adaptions of books but this go around we have a novelist poorly writing screenplays. Anyone with a degree in film writing could easy explain to you why Fantastic Beasts 1 was bad and 2 was atrocious. Johnny Depp did not bug me, Newt seems a little dull but I find him entertaining. However, the way J.K. Rowling dicks around her previous work and the screenplay itself is why the movie is unlikable for Harry Potter Fans above the age of 16.

Edit: Let me explain this is in a way you guys understand.

Harry Potters parent’s died protecting him from basically the grand nazi wizard. Harry was lied to and told his parents died in a car crash, was forced to live in a storage closet underneath the stairs and was treated like trash because the relatives who raised him were disgusted with him and his parents. He is given tough love throughout the book because the characters around him understand he needs to quickly grow in order to protect himself from the nazi wizard (this is also highlighted by the scar and the prophecy). In fantastic beasts I don’t really know who newt is other than he “likes animals and doesn’t really like people” but also he does like people. I don’t know anything about newt and I really don’t need to because he’s just fumbling through this plot with his pets. As a harry potter fan it’s entertaining but it’s a huge let down compared to it’s predecessor. Hell my favorite character in fantastic beasts is the muggle because he’s the only one with any real character development and he seems like the only one with any tangible problems he needs to overcome. In HP I love all the characters so much; the relationships they have with each other are great and they all have great character development. Honestly if you ask me Hagrid is better version of Newt. Give Hagrid a movie.

Harry has so much to overcome and we see him grow as a person. Newt and his friends don’t really do much at all other than trying to save credence I guess? We get to see newt add to his pokemon collection but that’s about it. Even the antagonist is boring. Compare Grindledwarf to Voldemort who do you think is more compelling?
