I worked on serious yachts and motorboats for 11 years.

I was a marine engineer, we would install water-makers and air-conditioning systems, this involved taking the boat apart to put it back together again with new kit on board.

Most clients were genuinely wealthy. Some were upper echelon wealthy.

They had a pleasant, relaxed understanding to them. Even when things went wrong.

The poseurs who just loved the lifestyle but couldn’t really afford it were a little tense, unpleasant and stressed if things took a tricky turn.

For me, clothes, flash cars, private number plates, chunky watches are usually a sign that someone is more aspirational than genuinely life-is-sorted-out-wealthy.

You do get a bit of crossover, obviously.
