There is a surgical specialty called colo rectal surgery which is a subspecialty of general surgery and because of technical aspects to the surgery in this anatomic region has become specialized, such surgeons will see patients who require surgery for disease that affect the large bowel such as cancer and inflammatory bowel disease.
