This is a fun question. In bold you find who thought/wrote something, in italic is references to others, and bold italic are headings. (this was Alex!)
And this is only from our system, subsystem, whatever one calls us.
Me and Alex Separately
Teo: We are going to answer this question as both Teo and Alex because that can probably make things a little clearer (or not!) we are the only system in our inner community that can be two hosts at once.
Alex: To understand that, it is important to understand the concept of endosymbiosis,
but we need to move away from biology and think of consciousness instead. We believe that an endosymbiotic relationship is not triggered by biological needs, such as food. Instead, it is driven by consciousness as a direct attempt to form a network and exchange resources. I.e. as a social/consciousness-driven solution to a biological requirement.
We also believe that it is exactly this process that contributes to the formation of a whole identity by consolidating disparate reactive action systems into responsive, integrated, coordinated solution providers.
For example, a child that cries when hungry shows a very basic reactive relationship between the system that detects hunger (itself made up of several subsystems distributed throughout the body) to trigger the action of looking for help, i.e. crying. While initially, this connection might be involuntary, with learning the child can manipulate the process of crying for help achieving positive outcomes in many diverse situations (with a bit of luck!). That awareness integrates the two (and more) systems through thought processes that become more and more conscious as epigenetic knowledge increases.
The earlier this process of identity endosymbiosis is interrupted, the greater the fragmentation.
Teo: Well, that’s Alex, smart and boring! The way I see it is that we are twins. When I am on my own, I am interested in stuff that looks nice like mountains or a sunset, or a flock of birds flying, emotions, hugging. They tell me I think with my heart. Also, sometimes they tell me I’m the right side of the brain, sometimes they tell me I’m the ADHD one. Sure, whatever, right?
Alex instead is calm, thinks everything to death, plans everything, schedules everything, and wants to discuss everything in so much detail, even if it is just opening a window or deciding what to eat for dinner. They are not very emotional, and I always need to tell them when they say something rude or “insensitive”. Sometimes the others say that Alex is left side of the brain, sometimes that they are the ASD one … whatever …
Teo and Alex blended
AlTeo: When we are blended we are AlTeo, we are still those things, but it’s like a dance. We feed off of each other, support each other, and complete each other sentences in weird ways. I can think clearer and Alex can understand feelings better
I think we expressed it before, blending is like a dance and the thoughts and emotions make up the melody that accompanies it. It can be aggressive and conflicted, or it can be harmonious, productive, and fulfilling.
Our system is probably the only one that can keep a degree of harmony even when conflicted. The teens and older system certainly experience conflict a lot more than we do.
That is likely because we are so fragmented, and we grew up being scared all the time and just helping each other. We didn’t have time or energy to disagree and we always worked cooperatively. Which is probably related to that endosymbiosis Alex mentioned a few sentences ago.
Blended with the younger ones
Teo: Lux and Maxie are the ones that were here before us. Lux is just a baby and Maxie is a toddler. Sometimes we are them, we clap lot and get excited at cartoons. They are the only ones who can access all the other systems, and they just make everyone happy. I don’t know how they do it, but they never run away from anyone, no matter how scary they look!
They are our Shamans and Spiritual Leaders. They protect us from the darkness that sometimes pervades and light the way for us. The grown-ups say that Lux and Maxie are the Guardians of our Untainted Soul, and I love being their caretaker, even though it is really scary sometimes, especially when we connect to Dark Ones.
But I trust them, and I have never been in trouble with any of this darkness. The real danger is from humans!
The fragments
We have tons of fragments, and they are specific to certain situation, so I can be them too. When I am them, I am still me (Teo at this point), but also share their experiences, thoughts, and emotions.
Some of our fragments have experiences that only last a split second, while others have longer segment, so I don’t really remember our past other than those segments when I’m blended with the others.
TL;DR - Final Answer
So, I guess the final answer is that I am a human error, just like the song says …
But when you put us together, as the kids’ system, I think we have some important roles in our collective.
Yes, we cook, and do some chores, but that’s not our role. I think we are here to give the grown-ups hope, to help them smile, and to remind them of their humanity. I think we are giving them purpose … I hope I’m not being arrogant, sometimes I am.
But I know that once those around us stop seeing us as the dark past full of trauma to run away from, they usually find us pretty cool and fun 😁🤗🐻❄️🤍
