We have to ensure extensive reforestation accompanied with increased tree plantation. We have to ensure complete space and protection to wild life both on land as well as in water. We have to ensure availability of sufficient clean water for all.

We have to check every activity which spoils the environment - be it polluting the rivers or irrational use of polythene. Be it cutting down of trees or be it cutting down on space for animals to live in.

The eco system is well knit and inter dependent and is designed to bring about auto correction only if it remains in cohesion- Man can not survive while being selfish at the same time.

We're going to have to. Without technology, we would probably starve, because we have probably past nature's carrying capacity, without technology.

We have to thrive without extracting too much from nature. and without nature, we would surely starve. Therefore, we have to stop damaging nature and, at the same time, provide for higher standards of living for most.

The United States could live with less land footprint (we drive too far for our needs). We all need to drive electric trucks and cars for our next vehicle and we all could use A LOT more solar, wind and batteries (or advanced nuclear, but not enough people will go for that)!

The world needs to use technology to build water and electric infrastructure that support new cities that are built around an efficient 3D structure. All electric mini cars and trucks with spiraling (or other type of) ramps accessing all the levels with no stop signs, just merging, and where everything needed is just a kilometer away in any given direction, up and down, too. These giant condominiums would have to have yard space for each unit and the structures might be built using graphene which is a lot stronger and lighter than steel.

This would allow for more people and more nature. The water piping should also water crops and cover crops that put some of the extra CO2 deep into the soil. This could be done in parts of the deserts, too. All existing yards should be used to grow plants that are good at converting the extra CO2 into carbon (and better soils).

Some technology has to be removed, such as tiling. They say it's better to use farm animals. And tall grasses are probably the best way to remove some of the extra CO2.

There's probably a lot of room for improvement for ecycling technologies, especially for batteries and solar panels. And solar panels shouldn't have to have the entire farm bulldozed over, instead, just stake driven supports over existing vegetation. Less damaging for the environment, and would prevent the environmental movement from preventing solar (yes, they'll do that, so we need laws mandating clean energy complete with trade tariffs based on CO2 emissions)!

Computers will make for better efficiency and might help with figuring out how the climate might respond to the extra radiative forcing. We don't want to overshoot or undershoot our global warming reversal efforts!

1. Cancel Your Car Insurance

You might not even realize it, but your car insurance company is probably overcharging you. In fact, they’re kind of counting on you not noticing. Luckily, this problem is easy to fix.

Don’t waste your time browsing insurance sites for a better deal. A company called Insurify shows you all your options at once — people who do this save up to $996 per year.

If you tell them a bit about yourself and your vehicle, they’ll send you personalized quotes so you can compare them and find the best one for you.

Tired of overpaying for car insurance? It takes just five minutes to compare your options with Insurify and see how much you could save on car insurance.

2. Ask This Company to Get a Big Chunk of Your Debt Forgiven

A company called National Debt Relief could convince your lenders to simply get rid of a big chunk of what you owe. No bankruptcy, no loans — you don’t even need to have good credit.

If you owe at least $10,000 in unsecured debt (credit card debt, personal loans, medical bills, etc.), National Debt Relief’s experts will build you a monthly payment plan. As your payments add up, they negotiate with your creditors to reduce the amount you owe. You then pay off the rest in a lump sum.

On average, you could become debt-free within 24 to 48 months. It takes less than a minute to sign up and see how much debt you could get rid of.

3. You Can Become a Real Estate Investor for as Little as $10

Take a look at some of the world’s wealthiest people. What do they have in common? Many invest in large private real estate deals. And here’s the thing: There’s no reason you can’t, too — for as little as $10.

An investment called the Fundrise Flagship Fund lets you get started in the world of real estate by giving you access to a low-cost, diversified portfolio of private real estate. The best part? You don’t have to be the landlord. The Flagship Fund does all the heavy lifting.

With an initial investment as low as $10, your money will be invested in the Fund, which already owns more than $1 billion worth of real estate around the country, from apartment complexes to the thriving housing rental market to larger last-mile e-commerce logistics centers.

Want to invest more? Many investors choose to invest $1,000 or more. This is a Fund that can fit any type of investor’s needs. Once invested, you can track your performance from your phone and watch as properties are acquired, improved, and operated. As properties generate cash flow, you could earn money through quarterly dividend payments. And over time, you could earn money off the potential appreciation of the properties.

So if you want to get started in the world of real-estate investing, it takes just a few minutes to sign up and create an account with the Fundrise Flagship Fund.

This is a paid advertisement. Carefully consider the investment objectives, risks, charges and expenses of the Fundrise Real Estate Fund before investing. This and other information can be found in the Fund’s prospectus. Read them carefully before investing.

4. Earn Up to $50 this Month By Answering Survey Questions About the News — It’s Anonymous

The news is a heated subject these days. It’s hard not to have an opinion on it.

Good news: A website called YouGov will pay you up to $50 or more this month just to answer survey questions about politics, the economy, and other hot news topics.

Plus, it’s totally anonymous, so no one will judge you for that hot take.

When you take a quick survey (some are less than three minutes), you’ll earn points you can exchange for up to $50 in cash or gift cards to places like Walmart and Amazon. Plus, Penny Hoarder readers will get an extra 500 points for registering and another 1,000 points after completing their first survey.

It takes just a few minutes to sign up and take your first survey, and you’ll receive your points immediately.

5. Get Up to $300 Just for Setting Up Direct Deposit With This Account

If you bank at a traditional brick-and-mortar bank, your money probably isn’t growing much (c’mon, 0.40% is basically nothing).

But there’s good news: With SoFi Checking and Savings (member FDIC), you stand to gain up to a hefty 3.80% APY on savings when you set up a direct deposit or have $5,000 or more in Qualifying Deposits and 0.50% APY on checking balances — savings APY is 10 times more than the national average.

Right now, a direct deposit of at least $1K not only sets you up for higher returns but also brings you closer to earning up to a $300 welcome bonus (terms apply).

You can easily deposit checks via your phone’s camera, transfer funds, and get customer service via chat or phone call. There are no account fees, no monthly fees and no overdraft fees. And your money is FDIC insured (up to $3M of additional FDIC insurance through the SoFi Insured Deposit Program).

It’s quick and easy to open an account with SoFi Checking and Savings (member FDIC) and watch your money grow faster than ever.

5. Stop Paying Your Credit Card Company

If you have credit card debt, you know. The anxiety, the interest rates, the fear you’re never going to escape… but a website called AmONE wants to help.

If you owe your credit card companies $100,000 or less, AmONE will match you with a low-interest loan you can use to pay off every single one of your balances.

The benefit? You’ll be left with one bill to pay each month. And because personal loans have lower interest rates (AmONE rates start at 6.40% APR), you’ll get out of debt that much faster.

It takes less than a minute and just 10 questions to see what loans you qualify for.

6. Lock In Affordable Term Life Insurance in Minutes.

Let’s be honest—life insurance probably isn’t on your list of fun things to research. But locking in a policy now could mean huge peace of mind for your family down the road. And getting covered is actually a lot easier than you might think.

With Best Money’s term life insurance marketplace, you can compare top-rated policies in minutes and find coverage that works for you. No long phone calls. No confusing paperwork. Just straightforward quotes, starting at just $7 a month, from trusted providers so you can make an informed decision.

Yes, if the capital resources are sufficient. A super asteroid strike could be overwhelming but the 2 deg C up and down and small increase in sea level rise can be adapted to. Trying to change the climate by cloud seeding etc could easily cause more harm than good. We’ve been incredibly successful in reducing vehicle and power plant emissions and unlike 20 years ago, when C02 was thought to be a problem, it now appears CO2 is more beneficial than a problem.

Let’s put it this way. You are not going to solve them without technology. Thr needs may be as simple as providing input to someone’s habitat that will result in less need for generated energy or as complicated as window panes or exterior wall coverings created to act as solar panels.

It could be as simple as inverting a liter soda bottle in a hole in the roof of a hut in Africa to provide better lighting inside.

How to build a SOLAR BOTTLE BULB

Or it might be the “largest environmental cleanup in history”.

I once met a man who drove a modest Toyota Corolla, wore beat-up sneakers, and looked like he’d lived the same way for decades. But what really caught my attention was when he casually mentioned he was retired at 45 with more money than he could ever spend. I couldn’t help but ask, “How did you do it?”

He smiled and said, “The secret to saving money is knowing where to look for the waste—and car insurance is one of the easiest places to start.”

He then walked me through a few strategies that I’d never thought of before. Here’s what I learned:

1. Make insurance companies fight for your business

Most people just stick with the same insurer year after year, but that’s what the companies are counting on. This guy used tools like Coverage.com to compare rates every time his policy came up for renewal. It only took him a few minutes, and he said he’d saved hundreds each year by letting insurers compete for his business.

Click here to try Coverage.com and see how much you could save today.

2. Take advantage of safe driver programs

He mentioned that some companies reward good drivers with significant discounts. By signing up for a program that tracked his driving habits for just a month, he qualified for a lower rate. “It’s like a test where you already know the answers,” he joked.

You can find a list of insurance companies offering safe driver discounts here and start saving on your next policy.

3. Bundle your policies

He bundled his auto insurance with his home insurance and saved big. “Most companies will give you a discount if you combine your policies with them. It’s easy money,” he explained. If you haven’t bundled yet, ask your insurer what discounts they offer—or look for new ones that do.

4. Drop coverage you don’t need

He also emphasized reassessing coverage every year. If your car isn’t worth much anymore, it might be time to drop collision or comprehensive coverage. “You shouldn’t be paying more to insure the car than it’s worth,” he said.

5. Look for hidden fees or overpriced add-ons

One of his final tips was to avoid extras like roadside assistance, which can often be purchased elsewhere for less. “It’s those little fees you don’t think about that add up,” he warned.

The Secret? Stop Overpaying

The real “secret” isn’t about cutting corners—it’s about being proactive. Car insurance companies are counting on you to stay complacent, but with tools like Coverage.com and a little effort, you can make sure you’re only paying for what you need—and saving hundreds in the process.

If you’re ready to start saving, take a moment to:

Saving money on auto insurance doesn’t have to be complicated—you just have to know where to look. If you'd like to support my work, feel free to use the links in this post—they help me continue creating valuable content.

Plus the universal Virus Pandemic. If you drive or bus to Melbourne from Brisbane, as we have over years, you would only see about 10 front-gardens with food trees! Such action is actually not new because when Britain, unable to support itself, was desperately running out of food when all the Nazi U-boat submarines were creating disaster havoc sinking so many 100s of American & British food supply ships. A British hero lady – name anyone? – created the Women’s Land Army

to rapidly make UK entirely Self-Sufficient in food by converting every spare sq-ft of land into food-growing whether private gardens, allotments, nationsl parks, road verges, disused farm sections, city parks & forests + wild areas like near beaches – just as we have here on our 1/4 acre, 35-year-old Edible Jungle. Everyone of sound body automatically became an efficient Farmer - & Britain could well feed itself at last..`

To Survive, the future will have to be highly off-grid self-sufficient & per person, per family, per village per town, per city, per region & per country with very little need of big trucks, ships or planes. Everyone will thus be far more interesting & interested than now.

That is what we set out to prove & write about decades ago.

This forces me to suggest everybody not buy anything for 6 months apart from local food. Your common sense should dictate that if you buy surgical gloves for instance as a necessity, put your hands in plastic bags to open the box, destroy the box + then thoroughly wash each glove including the 2 plastic hand bags, in hot water; dry in the sun.

Cars & car sales, petrol or diesel, planes as unsafe, trash, lack of Self-reliance, dumb unscientific politicians, single-use plastics, chain saws instead of circular portable saws, barbers, fast foods, restaurants, sugar, soft drinks, newspapers & mags unless containing vital data, drugs, restaurants, pubs, smoke or drug, or gamble, never visit prostitutes, never rent, never insure & never mortgage…

Always buy second-hand or cheap Home Brands - Avoid all single-use items like plastic + such bags + newspapers + Magazines unless they contain vital data + avoid all PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE items - We should all be treating our own trash, or not making or acquiring any:

RECYCLE, RESTORE, REUSE, REACTIVATE, REMODEL, REDESIGN, REHABILITATE, RECONDITION, RENEW, or Burn, Bury, Compost or Mulch all other “waste”.

Before buying a place where weapons are forbidden, I have a home-published scoring system for acceptability - on a dead-end street: water & rain water on the block, near transport, shops & doctors etc, not down-wind from factories, mines, dumps, heavy traffic, Nukes, nor near potential nuclear targets, or pollution, flooding, or disaster areas (earth quakes, trash, hurricanes, military, crime…), etc. ``We are virtually surrounded by thick jungle & down hollow to avoid cyclone damage; yet enjoy ocean breezes filtering through the purifying Paradise jungle.

Conversely to American DELTEC circular hurricane-proof homes, there are millions of fire-prone wooden American homes & yet our same or cheaper kit home wont burn & I have photos to prove it when 3 wild fires were attacking. You would think the ridiculous banks would support a home that won’t burn or blow down!!!

Our home has 3 huge long bolts that attach roof to concrete basement. I lived through Fijian Hurricane Heine in intentionally in a prestressed concrete hostel & noticed a thatched cottage - of many - next door survive because 3 long barbed wires over the roof were tied to huge car axels hammered into the ground at an angle; which should function to protect a caravan.

Check local Council rules. Underground on the side of a hill would be ideal to be flood-proof. For FARMLETTS in the bush, cut down all trees & mow if not goat-eat the grass in a 100m circle around the home. First live in a caravan or van in a warm climate like Islands near Brisbane or Hawaii with freshwater access - our ¼ acre & small house Farmlett is plenty - after selling the main house & virtually everything else not needed on future FARMLETT so you will have plenty of spare cash & converting is then FREE.

Before making a house, Plant an Edible Jungle on 1/4 acre using poo, piss, buried seaweed & compost, wood ashes & volcanic rock dust = fertilizer etc. Virtually all dwarf food trees, including leaf greens + sweet potato + fruits & veggies. Water tanks should be concrete or same as fire-proof galvo roof + reject first half hour of rain to clean air & roof (commercial plumbing for that). Possibly dig a 15m x 2m x 4m deep dam. Long range Chinese Freego electric folding K scooter charged by solar panel via an inverter + mains adaptor; or bike pulled by a vegetarian Dachshund dog.

I always had a tiny folding hub-gear kid’s bike I converted with tall seat post + bag + big front sprocket, OK on buses.

All solar power super-cheap 12-volt system should cost about $400 for a 46 watt solar panel to power a blender from a starter motor, bilge tank pump, TV, windup radio & torches etc, bed warmer is a rheostat variable power resistor,

LED lights fans, coffee heater, even a big homemade fridge etc. Fridge alternative is a commercial FRESHIELD vacuum food preservers + hand pump + many sized containers; ours now for 1/4 century (sausages fresh for months; check weekly & pump again if the pressure rises slightly).

We hand-spray our T-shirt with water, then have a small fan or breeze playing on the moist T-shirt in real heat waves, that usually gets too cold & we have to slow or redirect the fan. With 2 or 4 watt car fan or portable battery fan playing on bare legs is much cooler than if fan playing on face, arms etc; fans can often save more than ½ air conditioning power that we find unnecessary even in Queensland. Ceiling cooling fans set on 1 or 2 are perfect. Our sea breezes via open windows & doors are generally sufficient. For low-humidity areas we have a tiny 12volt water evaporator; big home units are very economical & take little power to supply cool air ducted around to each room. They avoid costly A/C.

Or for cooking, get a small motor generator only to run the microwave oven for minutes if you have no 12 volt microwave, which are available.

Suggest a highset 1 big room fire-flood-proof kit home like ours for 35 years- eg steel frame, Hardyplank cladding & galvo roof + thick insulated ceiling. Also have a rain-proof attic air-vent allowing the air to blow right through the house attic length = vastly cooler even in tropics.

3 layers of box cardboard insulates floors under carpets. Also on walls behind Book cases & cupboards against walls facing outside + in ceilings. 28cm thick loft insulation. Our home has huge long bolts that attach roof to concrete basement. Fire-proof Steel frames are reportedly cheaper than wooden.

I have photos of fires safely engulfing the home when I didn’t even call the fire brigade during 3 fires - figuring they would be too busy elsewhere on ridiculous wooden-house safety.

Mentioning all this to governments, councils, PM & fire brigades has zero effect = their collective too-hard baskets.-.-.-.

``SHTF Toilets:

FLUSH?

We don’t because we have a deep failsafe simple 1-2m hole or trench in the ground dug manually in a few minutes or by a powered borer. A metal cylinder is on top, or place a commercial square folding toilet from Camping goods stores safely over the hole + on top with a comfortable toilet seat which can be 1/2 a tyre that had been cut in two around its tread circumference + lid topping that, which can be a bit of fibreboard.. Never failed us for 35 years, like the Incas, Mayans & Aztecs who dug muck out after a while for their gardens. You can do likewise by waiting some months using another hole, then with a hinged shovel hole-digger, extract the rich muck out for fertilizer - hence reuse same first hole. Or when full, plant a food tree in the old hole & dig another hole after about 2 to 4 years for a couple. Be careful no fresh water is used nearby

!

Such simple convenience is open to the elements (umbrella handy) but surrounded with sugar-cane privacy. Hole was only used for defecating - urination especially from females - was near all the food trees with miraculous results. It would be decades before even a trace of resultant compacted compost would leak into nearby rivers - if at all. All FREE & utterly Reliable, didn’t smell, didn’t get clogged, no bugs frogs or snakes as often found in sheds, hygienic & sterilised by sun & rain, safe & hygienic with the best view in the house

Norwegian,

unlike Swedish, animals are barned below the 2-story farm household all winter & they keep home above & the adjacent hayloft warm - they have it made. During summer a tractor drives up a ramp to deliver stock feed to top floor hayloft, which is dropped in pieces to stock below during winter. Winter manure is later tractored over the fields as fertilizer in summer. If you only have enough grass for a brief fire, heat up several hot water bottles.

Libraries are nice & warm in winter, as are churches with their copious tea, pies & cakes. In South Brisbane, St.Vinnies DePaul have free board & lodging; or at least certain exact times, free meals out the back for anyone. I have used their kindness next to a big church for years. If you have hot water laid on, or a radiator o fireplace to heat water, fill 2-3 hot water bottles & store them hot for a day in the bed one on top of the other until you get into bed. I put one beside my back or stomach when sleeping on my side – or on my lap & feet if sitting at a desk; then no radiator or fireplace is needed.

Irrigation Pipe length 15 ft but any length OK, by 5 inches diameter, holds 15 gallons.

Prop this up usually against the house so as to be perpendicular to the winter sola radiation - or near horizontally EAST-WEST at any level from ground, often the higher is better as on flat roof to enable sola-heated water to emerge from the pipe mouth into the home reticulation system by gravity. The sun-facing pipe-side is painted matt black, whilst the other side is foam-insulated. To get hot water from it, a garden hose reaches from some cold-water tap, into the pipe mouth right down through the water to the bottom. Thus, cold water entering the hose simply displaces an equal rate of hot water to overflow at the SOLA FUNNEL hot top end into the shower or home system.

Without the fuels that conventional vehicles require there are no technologies that can address these challenges. Alternative energies transport nothing and they require fossil fuels to manufacture and install themselves. It’s all about the transportation needed to make the energy transition. What that must mean is more oil, not less.

Technology has the potential to play a significant role in addressing environmental challenges. Here are some ways in which technology can contribute to environmental sustainability:

  1. Renewable Energy: Technological advancements in solar, wind, hydro, and other renewable energy sources are crucial for reducing dependence on fossil fuels and mitigating climate change. Improved energy storage technologies and grid management systems also facilitate the integration of renewable energy into existing power systems.
  2. Energy Efficiency: Technology enables the development of energy-efficient appliances, buildings, and transportation systems. Innovations such as smart grids, energy management systems, LED lighting, and efficient heating and cooling systems help reduce energy consumption and lower carbon emissions.
  3. Environmental Monitoring and Data Analysis: Sensor technologies, satellite imagery, and data analytics allow for better monitoring of environmental conditions, including air quality, water quality, deforestation, and wildlife habitats. This data can inform decision-making and help implement targeted interventions to protect and restore ecosystems.
  4. Circular Economy and Waste Management: Technology supports the transition towards a circular economy by promoting resource efficiency, waste reduction, and recycling. Advanced sorting and recycling technologies, waste-to-energy processes, and innovative material design contribute to minimizing waste generation and maximizing resource recovery.
  5. Precision Agriculture: Technology, such as sensors, drones, and AI-based analytics, enables precision agriculture practices. These techniques optimize water usage, reduce pesticide application, improve crop yields, and promote sustainable farming practices.
  6. Environmental Education and Awareness: Technology plays a crucial role in raising awareness and educating people about environmental challenges. Online platforms, mobile applications, and virtual reality experiences can engage individuals, provide information, and inspire behavioral changes towards more sustainable lifestyles.

It's important to note that while technology offers solutions, its implementation must consider social, economic, and ethical aspects. Collaborative efforts between governments, industries, communities, and individuals are essential to harness the full potential of technology for environmental sustainability.

Probably by better understanding nature we would realize that nature does not recognize environmental problems - they are a purely human perception that the dollar magnifies.

Nature just gets on with it and does a good job of filling environmental holes; excels at it.

Unfortunately nature has yet to learn that it is supposed to be a pretty picture from a fairy tale.

There is little question that technology has been the tool to solve many man made environmental issues to date; but keep in mind that it was the other technology which created the issue to begin with. Technology is generally just a tool to be used by man; and can be used both positive and negative. We should not condemn technology itself for any negative results.

Artificial Intelligence is one such technology that can help solve a variety of issues, environmental issues being one of them.

Any technology we use has an environmental price. The best we can do is use what creates the least damage, and right now that is renewable energy. Price however does come into the picture as many people value their bank account over the future of life on the planet. Fortunately renewable energy is also the cheapest source of energy.

Engineers (“Technologists”) solve environmental problems all the time. Engineers vs Politicians:

The layman non-engineer perception of “Rising Sea-Levels” appears almost laughable if it was not a serious political issue. A bit of basic education below:

Average rise in the World’s sea levels = 1.8 mm per YEAR over the last 140 years.

Average Daily Tide change = 500 mm per DAY.

Average King Tide = 1000 mm per tide during seasonal occurrences.

Storm Surges (hurricanes/typhoons/tsunamis, etc.). = 5000 mm over a 24 to 72 hour period.

Politicians are always urged to follow the Engineer’s recommendations to protect from all the above, however most politicians neglect the Storm Surge protection. Some pols neglect the King Tide recommendations. Almost all pols do listen to the daily tide recommendations which more than adequately protect against the insignificant “rise in average sea-level” criteria. To cover their continual coastal protection screw-ups, politicians blame “Climate Change” thus avoiding accountability for these public policy “crimes”.

The above can also explain the California and Australia forest/bush fires as Forestry/Bush experts recommended the force clearing of dead or dried biomass prior to the dry “fire season” and the pols again did not follow their recommendations and allowed massive and unnecessary havoc to occur.

Listen to the Engineers and dismiss the lying politicians!

Now, we know that these things are living tiny microorganisms and their chemistry is capable of amazing things. They can eat oil, gasoline, benzene, toxic waste, petrochemicals, arsenic, foods of all kinds, raw sewage, body oils, even uranium and chromium … the list is long. They don’t generally need humans to do this … the natural process of Evolution will create changes in their DNA or RNA that results in new protein chemistry capable of denaturing, breaking apart or consuming thousands of different chemicals we don’t like around.

That said, since humans do generally understand microbial chemistry and genetics, we can and do isolate, edit, alter and enhance the genetics and behavior of thousands of different kinds of microbes so they do a better job of chemically attacking or altering the many many toxic stews we create and release into the environment. The process is called “Bioremediation” and has become a mature industry worldwide. Virtually every sewage treatment plant on Earth uses and indirectly “trains” microbes to “eat” raw sewage, sometimes so well that in a few hours, a glass of stinking sewer water can become so clean it can be drunk safely. Oil spills are now routinely being “remediated” through Bioremediation. EPA Superfund sites use tons of enhanced bacteria to tackle specific wastes. Huge vats of genetically modified Organisms (GMO’s) are being employed to do hundreds of specific tasks. The industry is valued now in the billions of dollars, and has a good growth potential for decades to come. Even humans are being treated with modified bacteria to actually cure a few illnesses we suffer.

Look up “Bioremediation” for much more detail on the answer to your question.

So far, it hasn’t. Even now, the environment would be better-off without it. Sure, high-tech clean energy solutions are helping us lower our GHG emissions, but not fast enough. At the same time, tech increases energy demand.

Tech needs to help solve the climate crisis. But, so far, the solutions tech likes to tout, like carbon capture, are more myth than fact. Carbon capture and storage won’t work, critics say

The best thing about Tech is that they are overthrowing Big Oil as kings of the global economy. Their commitment to environmental solutions is still suspect. Negative Impact of Technology

In the modern 21st century after evolving further by industrialization in 1800s we humans finally showed some signs on developing tech and aiding programs for the environmental science and technology letters

While we are engrossing in our constant growth in pharmaceutical, robotics, biotechs, VR, AIs and so on the resources used and the process for the successful results have major drawbacks within, especially for the environment.

Global warming caused by excess greenhouse gases would seem to be the most important problem to solve, since it is global. The solution is to reverse the CO2 count by almost 33% (we've upped it from 280 to 420 ppm, or by fifty percent, in a geoblink). We do this by both industrializing clean energy collection and storage (Tesla is already doing this!) and by regenerative agriculture.

We might have already “tilted” the climate to a point that it will continue to heat up even after we do these important exponentially increasing industrial solutions. Therefore, we might have to become a space base

We might have already “tilted” the climate to a point that it will continue to heat up even after we do these important exponentially increasing industrial solutions. Therefore, we might have to become a space based race in order to properly shadow up to 2% of the sun from space, using self guided light sails that maneuver in real time according to weather forecasts, from about a million miles away between us and the sun. I believe the only way to do this is from a large factory and electromagnetic launch facility on the Moon (go SpaceX!).

Another enviro problem will be from genetic engineering. Once messed with, nature is forever changed unless there's a way to perfectly reverse the changes.

Are you old enough to remember the song by Simon and Garfunckle that said, in part: “then the people bowed and prayed to the neon gods they made”?

Now repeate the song and delete the word ‘Neon” and replace it with “wind and solar power”

Will nanotechnology really help us clean up the environment?

One of the most common, daily applications of nanotechnology you’ll find are modern microchips, which are made with nanoscale circuits these days.

Computers are definitely making environmental clean up possible. Whether they’re running Earth-observing satellites or analyzing potential cleanup techniques on Earth, nanotech in computers is vital for helping clean up the environment.

(Were you hoping for an answer involving fictional nanobots?)

As far as I’m concerned the answer to this question hasn’t changed in more than forty years. But it is a matter of opinion and opinions differ. So the REASON I feel that climate change is the most pressing environmental challenge is because it is almost completely irreversible and we are already locked into changes that will last for centuries if not thousands of years. Everything we know how to do is inadequate to change that, although we can moderate the impacts a little. What we cannot do is stop sea level from rising at least six to eight feet this century and at least another twenty-five

Everything we know how to do is inadequate to change that, although we can moderate the impacts a little. What we cannot do is stop sea level from rising at least six to eight feet this century and at least another twenty-five to thirty feet in the following century or two. If we are completely ignorant or completely unlucky the potential sea level rise is 72 feet.

Even the IPCC is at fault for talking about the problem as if it all stopped getting worse in the year 2100, which the scientists know isn’t accurate. The Sixth Assessment Report begins to address this, unlike the previous five reports.

And the IPCC doesn’t address solutions at all. That has been the failure of all time. I began working on money-saving solutions to fossil and nuclear power before I believed that climate change was a serious concern. About five years later when I saw some convincing evidence it was already clear that the solutions I promoted were also the only solutions that mattered for climate change, so I had no new tricks to learn, except to talk about climate change as it became more fashionable to do so.

Energy efficiency was and remains the largest source of clean energy in the U.S. and probably the world. Wind plus solar may overtake energy efficiency as a source of new clean energy per year some time this decade, but it hasn’t happened yet.

In 2017 wind and solar generation equipment dropped about 40% in cost, making new utility scale wind and solar farms cheaper than all fossil and nuclear generation everywhere in the world.

I have written hundreds, perhaps thousands of answers on Quora where I spell out how to end all fossil and all nuclear power use everywhere in the world with wind and solar that saves money and has none of the problems the climate liars claim. I won’t do that for this question, but you can be assured there is nothing else needed, and no barriers. There are some challenges to 100% wind and solar, starting with talking about solutions instead of problems.

So in addition to solving climate change, the same action ends air pollution which kills millions of people every year and makes 100 people sick enough to require medical attention for every one that is killed by soot and smog. Soot and smog are also the primary cause of the global droughts, which was established by scientists in the 1980’s but mostly forgotten or never learned by the popular media that conflates drought with warming, which is inaccurate. This is important because ending fossil fuels will not end warming, but it will end soot and smog. We should see a measurable reduction in droughts before we finish replacing fossil fuels. The action is specifically that soot and smog cause more rain over the oceans instead of over land where it used to be triggered by mountain ranges.

It will also cause a global economic growth opportunity that could solve a lot of the other problems. We can screw that up, but the best way to avoid doing that is to be thinking about it in advance. The world today has about 5% of the wind and solar generation it will need by 2050. By the time we get a mature 100% renewable energy resource we will be replacing old equipment so the employment impacts are more permanent. Wind and solar is cheaper than fossil or nuclear power, but also much more labor intensive.

I guess that’s enough for now. Of course other people are entitled to their opinions, but my opinion is based on the urgency and the degree of irreversibility and the massive potential benefits to solve other problems in the wake of solving this one. NO other global environmental threat has such a powerful economic benefit that results from solving it.

Science and technology is an amazingly powerful force that can deal with the problems with the environment, but sadly science and technology don't have a chance against politicians, greed, and time.

Well, technology allowed us to make solar panels, and those huge wind mills, they certainly help the environment. Don’t you think? But then it’s also technology that is stuffing up the environment in the first place. So I guess it’s evening things out.

1- Erosion of the wind turbines’ blades (due to high speed of 200 miles/hour) which effect their output is an unsolvable problem. That is the reason for the operator of wind farms after five years, the end of depreciation period, selling them.

2- Solar panels are most efficient at low latitude and sunny locations. To store one hour output of a 100,000-kwh solar farm you need a lithium-ion battery weighting 800,000 lbs. The same figure applies to storing the output of wind farms.

3 - There is no way one can economically recycle the lithium-ion batteries.

4- scarcity of components of Lithium-ion ba

6- Ethanol has heating value of 76,000 Btu/gal vs 125,000 Btu/gal: 39% less, and it takes 110 gallons of irrigation water to produce1 gallon of ethanol.
