Thanks for the A2A!

In one word, it felt brilliant!

I had applied for MS abroad the previous year and had only received an admit from a not-so-great school in US. Being the ambitious kid that I was / am, I chose not to take it up. Obviously this was met with rejection and words from the society around. I was labelled as being unrealistic and too-ambitious.

To add fuel to the fire, there were not many jobs in the major that I had graduated from. So more dejection. Thankfully, I got a job as a Research Assistant in one of the leading research labs in my country. Nevertheless, this was not financially rewarding. And was about 14 hours by train from home. It was the first time I moved to a different part of the country, that speaks a different language from me. So it took quite a few months to get used to the people around me, their culture, food, etc. The room that I was allotted to was also horrible.

So amidst all this, I decided to apply again. During that time, a friend of mine in Europe suggested that I apply to ETH Zurich while being entirely sure that I won’t get an admit. So I was like okay let’s just try if there’s any luck. It was the first admit I received that day (and I received 2 that day).

I then googled about the university and its credentials and was mind blown literally. Switzerland was my dream destination and so it felt surreal to think that I was going to *live* in Switzerland. Like oh my God!

After the initial jumping around, I sent in my acceptance, resigned a month later, got back home, spent time with family and flew out to Switzerland after a horrible visa experience. And boy, was it worth it! Switzerland is just amazing and so is ETH. Truly world class! 1.5 years of bliss living in Switzerland and studying at ETH Zurich! I’d totally love to do it again! :)
