Nope. I’m not going to sugarcoat it.
Cases don’t get over in a matter of 2 days or nearly as quickly as shown in suits.
No lawyer, even if he is of Harvey’s caliber can handle 36 cases a day forget about finding the time to go out for dinners and drinks, boxing and jogs, car racing and whatnot. Plus, winning every single one of those thousands if cases is impossible too.
Secretaries don’t nearly get paid as much as Donna and nor do they easily go around getting involved with the rest of the firm’s activities and especially their boss’ personal life.
Firms do not have such luxurious offices and views and people cannot come working to the same place for decades and not repeat a single outfit even once (as Jessica claims to).
In an interview with Larry, Meghan Markle (Rachel Zane) and Patrick J Adams(Mike Ross) even admitted that they almost changed the American constitution by depicting the manner in which some cases proceeded.
I guess the closest to accurate portrayal was that of the struggle of associates and how high class lawyers can end up turning a blind eye to their personal life and prioritizing work over everything else (like Harvey) because they are so damn busy. But that’s not the aim of Suits.
There’s something called as ‘the illusion of the performance’. The illusion of the performance is this mutual illusion in which both the performer and the audience are engaged. It involves the ‘suspension of disbelief’, which, exactly as it sounds, means that the viewers refuse to disbelieve in the accuracy of the events happening during the performance. Like, Mission Impossible. Most of the stunts there are no where near possible. (I know I know, Tom Cruise does his stunts himself, but it’s not like he was hanging from Burj Khalifa without ANY protection like shown in the movie. He had support cables-DUH! Who would want to risk losing such a great actor?) But we didn’t let that ruin the movie, if you are anything like me, you were fascinated because you were just so ‘in the moment’. That’s exactly what we need to do for Suits. We gotta let go of that disbelief to be able to actually enjoy it.
Thanks for scrolling down, I know it takes a lot of effort. Now that you’ve come this far, please go through the trouble of upvoting as well! ;)
