I am 43 years, 2 months and 13 days old.
There! I said it. Loud and clear.
As for why women prefer to hide their age, I think this is again one of our social constructs.
“Don’t ask a man his salary and a woman her age”. Perhaps because people were attached to these identities a lot. Men were seen as bread earners and women were seen as someone who took care of their youthful looks.
But now times are changing. Men earn. And so do women. If asking a man how much he earns is seen as disrespectful, people should apply the same privacy while talking with woman. You don’t ask her how much she earns.
Now coming to age. I have seen men also investing in their looks. The cosmetic industry is not limited to women alone.Be it fairness creams or gyms, they leave no stone un-turned. Perhaps it is because they always like to feel young. Which in itself is perfectly acceptable.
Hence, such stereotypes serve no purpose. Be it man or woman, respect their boundaries and privacy.
As for me, I like to feel “my age”. Because in my twenties and thirties, I was not half as confident or half as fun as I am now.
Cheers.
