To some degree, it’s a matter of taste, but here are two that are quite good.

  • Nightwatch: A Practical Guide to Viewing the Universe, by Terence Dickinson
  • Turn Left at Orion, by Guy Consolmagno and Don Davis

These are in print (as of 2020 April) and widely available through many bookstores and on-line retailers.

There are lots of excellent books on astronomy, but these are two that I’m very familiar with. They’ve always been well received by students.
