Few months back, I was in Switzerland.
The hostel room I stayed in had two roommates. One guy from Barcelona and one girl from India.
I checked in first, followed by the guy and as I was leaving the room an hour later for sightseeing, the girl entered in.
An hour later, when I was having dinner in the Grill Bar in the hostel, that girl came. She looked around at the partially occupied tables, she came to me and asked ‘Hello. Can I join you?'
I naturally said: 'Of course. Sure.'
And then we started talking.
In no particular order, we talked about her days in Singapore and Germany, studying in IIITH, scalar box product, trignometry, data science, about escorts and stripclubs in Thailand, US and Europe, things to do in Switzerland, her travel stories, my travel stories, live in relationships, arranged marriages life experiences yada yada. We were just a year apart, so we had lot of common things.
It went for close to 4 hours. The sun set, the night turned very cold and the restaurant also closed.
Then we walked back to the room around late in the night.
The next day, I went to Jungfraujoch and she went village hopping. Both of us returned late at night and we had a very small 2 min ‘How was your day?’ chat.
And early next morning, she left the hostel very early around 7 AM while I checked out much later in the afternoon.
So the highlight of this whole episode is
While I realised this during the return train from Switzerland.
We never knew each others' names.
It is like you have just completed reading a person’s biography but don’t know the protagonist name.
Strange feeling.
