“Can Walmart employees carry concealed weapons?”
Yes. Anyone can carry concealed weapons almost anywhere. They’re concealed.
Is it legal or authorized by Walmart for employees to carry concealed weapons?
Possibly legal, depending on the state, but I believe it’s against Walmart policy everywhere.
The unvarnished truth is, unless the person is sloppy, or there are extraordinary measures in place, such as metal detectors and pat-downs, the only thing that prevents anyone from carrying concealed weapons most places, is that person’s own concerns.
Whether you’re talking laws or company policies, unless there is an active mechanism for detecting and dealing with concealed weapons, a person — good guy or bad guy —
can carry. That’s why stores and buildings putting up “No Guns” signs are so stupid. Who is going to obey the sign? Will a person intending to rob the place see the sign and say “Aww man…”? Will a rampage killer drive around looking for a place that doesn’t have a “No Guns” sign?
No. Only the law-abiding people who aren’t a threat to anyone will obey the sign. How does that make anyone safer?
You got me going on my hobby horse, but the whole thing is so frustrating. Businesses might as well put up signs that say “No Illegal Activity Allowed.” That would just fix everything.
But until the world gets more rational, anyone who chooses to carry concealed, is probably going to find themselves in situations where they have to make a choice between obeying the law or policy, and doing what’s smarter, safer, or more convenient.
Choose wisely and tread carefully.
