On my honeymoon my husband and I were in Vegas and wanted to get gussied up and have a fancy dinner. We were expecting and planning for one expensive night where we celebrated and didn’t worry about the cost. Pretty big treat for us at the time, considering our entire wedding was less than $400. We saved on the wedding so we could splurge on a life experience together instead. The meal I’m describing wasn’t our most expensive, but ludicrous in form.
We walk up and down the strip, enjoying the lights, excitement, and the Bellagio’s fountains. We finally decide to have a steak at What was Bally’s at the time. We ordered the most expensive steaks they had, and were expecting a bill of around $200 plus a generous tip. We had our 4 courses and dinner and service was great- until the bill came.
We had almost $75 in drink charges, but we’d both only had coke and water, no alcohol. Come to find out, we were charged for a new drink EVERY time they topped off our water glasses! Almost 8 buck a refill, and this was definitely not Perrier. The kick in the face was right outside the restaurant was the casino, where I could play nickel slots and have free alcohol brought to me by a cocktail waitress for hours on end and nobody batted an eye. We didn’t argue and paid our bill, but Jesus never again. I’m well aware of European countries that charge per refill, but that is their custom and I expect it. But to be hit with a bill for $75 for water refills when my monthly water bill was $60 a MONTH was crazy.
