You will need ample discipline for yourself.
To build a healthy support system is to discipline yourself and control your emotions. You should do this not for your own sake but for your partner’s. First things first, you have to build a safe space for each other. When I say safe space, it includes trust, security and empathy.
Trust is when you allow your partner to be your counselor as you navigate through a rough moment. Never be ashamed of feeling vulnerable with your partner and tell them what you truly feel.
Security is when you give them the assurance that what they tell you is only between the two of you. This also includes making them feel like they are your top priority when bad times happen.
Empathy is when you don’t just listen, you also feel what they are going through. When you feel their emotions and relate to it, you’ll understand your partner better.
This should work on both parties, you know. What’s the use of having a healthy support system if it’s only one-sided.
