Ha. Great question!

My ‘father’ whom I refer to as “The Tormentor” would never allow me to purchase a vehicle so I could get to work (I had over $3K saved around age 16). He refused, because he knew it would be my “get away vehicle.” Same thing went with any cellular phones (just coming out when I was young). I was a young woman and grew up in a rural area. I knew I needed to get out, because everyone around liked to ‘control’ the people around them. The women would scream at their husbands until 2:00 a.m. The neighbor’s daughter in law would do this regularly in the front lawn of my neighbor’s house.

Back then, I had never heard of the very propagated term ‘domestic violence.’ A lot of the white trash people around would all do the same thing - so it’s not ‘violence’ if everyone is doing it! Pretty popular - the screaming and random people throwing dresser drawers off the deck of the house and so forth. So who would the police stop - half the block? Collective consciousness = oh my!

Withholding information, withholding freedom was the mantra of the Tormentor.

I am so glad I escaped.

omg I had no idea this would get thousands of views. lol.

As a grown adult, in all seriousness, it’s so awful to know people existed/still do exit in this fashion. What I surveyed when I went back to visit is that much of the population is brainwashed by (dis) organized religion- Christianity to be exact. The control had to be learned from somewhere, right? Well, observe. Houses with The Ten Commandments right in the front yard - there ya go.

I don’t judge. Actually, I feel extremely bad for the people who never learned a new way and turned to addiction. They likely turned to addiction as a result of having nothing else to experience other than religion or a Walmart. Not much flavor, ya know?

Rural areas have very little, if ANY viable options for those seeking mental health help and/or substance abuse rehabilitation. There still isn’t much in the area I speak of, and sadly, it’s self-perpetuating.
