I was married for eight years and divorced my husband due to his drug and alcohol abuse. After being out of touch with his family for a couple of years I called his mother to offer my condolences when her husband passed away. She told me “You divorced my son, you didn’t divorce me.” Which meant she still wanted to be in touch with me. And we stayed in touch for a long time until she moved to another state to live with her daughter.
