Well, yes I have…

One day I had got off work from the sugar beet plant smelling to high heaven. My daughter had picked me up and had to go to the mall to get something. I needed a shower and knew I needed a shower.

I walked by a Buckles Store and found the nicest pair of sandals almost outside the door. I picked them up longingly really wanting a pair but ashamed to go into the store…

A cheerful clerk comes up to me (totally ignoring my smell) and pleasantly asks “would You like to try these on? I looked at her thinking she was crazy as she asked me to set down. She got the sandals I was interested in and I tried them on.

I told her that I wanted them and she asked if there was anything else I was interested in. I saw a nice pair of jean shorts with their logo, a cross with lots of rhinestones on the back pocket. We approximated the size that I would wear and I bought them too.

To that clerk I looked and smelled like a homeless bum and yet she was nice to me and kind anyway! The sale was over $160.00 and I know clerks from that store get compensated by commissions on their sales. Even other clerks in that same store ignored me!

For me? I had never paid so much for a pair of jeans and a pair of sandals. I thought it was worth it to pay that much for a nice, pleasant clerk who would wait on someone smelly and looking rough.
