Never be ashamed to call home and ask for help. If they have been drinking and realize it's not a good decision for them to drive home, you need to be proud of them for making that call. Family members who lose someone as a result of a drunk driver, are really scarred for life.

Much better for your child feel safe calling you to come get them. You can get their vehicle the next day during daylight hours and when they are sober. Teens experiment with a lot of things because they're curious and often yield to peer pressure. If they have discomfort or or not sure about their level of sobriety/inebriation it's way better for them to either spend the night there, or have you get them the hell out of there. You need to make it OK for them to call you at 2 AM and let you know they need a lift.
