Update placement 2018–20:
The whole batch is yet to be placed. Around 3 students has not been placed yet. And many has got CTC below <10–11 LPA. The Institute has released placement report citing highest ever average package which is misleading and inflated due to some high packages (which is true for most of colleges).
Post this mishap in placement, there was a General Body Meeting between student placement committee (constituted of PGP1) and whole batch 2018–20 & 2019–21. In this meeting, batch of 2018–20 and previous Placement Committee members of senior batch asked pertinent questions to current placement committee.
During this whole night meeting, which unearthed many inefficiency and unethical conduct at the behest of current placement committee. Some of which (not all) is listed here-
- Placement Committee Members removed name of shortlisted candidates from few companies' shortlist and added name of those not shortlisted in the list.
- Many companies didn't give any shortlist, which means that they wanted all applicants to participate in GD/pre-placement processes. But Placement Committee itself drawn up a shortlist for those companies and put up some name of applicants in shortlist at their whims.
- Placement Committee removed name of all candidates from shortlist who had applied under dream option. Which led to situation that hardly anyone could avail dream option. (It was done with intention to place whole batch, chances of which has started looking bleak since day 0)
- Placement Committee misbehaved at those students who couldn't get placed till close of say 1. They were in double digits. They were told that they are incompetent. Basically they were blamed for dismal placement.
- It was brought to notice of placement committee in that meeting that they could invite lesser number of companies (30–40% lesser) as compared to IIM A, B and L. Placement Committee couldn't give any justification why they could not call those companies which visited peer campuses.
- Placement Committee overestimated their bandwidth and didn't prepare for day 1 evening slot and day 2. And they had not invited firms which could have come in these slots.
- Placement Committee didn't behave properly with HRs from company and talked negatively of batch to be placed. One of the HR said to one of the students that when he/she asked one of the placement Committee member - what is your work as placecom member?. He/she replied - “Seniors ki maarna”. When particular placement Committee member was asked if he/she said so, he/she told first that he/she don't remember. Later he/she spoke, “even if i would have told. So what?”.
This marathon meeting ended with decision to start impeachment process of placement committee members.
The PGP 2018–20 also raised the question on inefficiency and incompetence of CDPO (the professor in charge of placement). In turn, placement Committee members and CDPO blames the batch for dismal placement citing their lack of preparation.
Fate of impeachment process (2020):
- Impeach process began with poll through official email id based login. Both batch 2018–20 and 2019–21 participated in the process. In this process, 2/3rd votes were required to continue with removal of concerned placement committee members.
- Result of above poll: All committee members except 3, were to be impeached. More than 66% students of two batches voted against these members.
- Next step was passage of resolution of impeachment in Students' council meeting. For this, majority vote of council members was required.
- Meeting of council outcome: SAC body (which constituted members of PGP1) turned down the impeachment motion citing lapse in procedures. They gave reasons like personal vendetta worked during poll. They also opined that the action can be taken against some/all student of batch 2018–20 as they harrased placement Committee members during that meeting.
In this whole process, CDPO remained missing from picture. No support came from Professors or administration. Batch of 2018–20 is feeling helpless even after such conduct of placement Committee members. Many of the members of Batch 2018–20 are even planning to skip convocation as they recollect last days of their campus life.
