If you’re not a carpenter, why would you need more than 3 saws?

I am neither a hunter or a carpenter, and I will not state on a public forum whether I own guns or not. But I’m happy to tell you about my saws.

Here they are:

Listed they are:

  • Two hacksaws - one with a small handle to get into small spaces.
  • One hacksaw for getting into even smaller spaces.
  • Two keyhole saws - when I lost one, bought another and then found the one I lost.
  • One small cross-cutting saw - good for cutting shapes.
  • One saw good for cutting soft things like foam.

Then I have these:

  • Cross-cutting saw - Used to hand cut tree limbs.
  • Pole saw - Used to trim branches high in trees.
  • Chain saw - Good for cutting down trees and branches under 12 inches in diameter.

I want to get an even bigger chainsaw, capable of cutting down bigger trees (I own 36 acres of woods and have a lot of firewood) but haven’t gotten around to it.

So by my count I own 10 saws and I’m not even a carpenter. Until I considered your question I never even knew the exact number of saws I owned. But aside from the duplicate keyhole saw, each of these saws has a specific use that the others cannot do. I cannot cut down a tree with a keyhole saw, and I cannot cut a hole in drywall with my chainsaw (at least without the Wife throwing a fit).

The same is true of guns because like saws, guns are tools, and for every job there is the right tool for it. They are not magical things that work on their own. My chain saw has never cut down a tree on its own, nor has the hacksaw cut copper pipe without my muscles pushing it.

Now imagine how many saws a carpenter has. I have no idea but I’m sure it’s more than 10.

Failure of imagination should not be used as the basis for curbing rights. Why do people need more than one social media account? Who cares, they can have as many as they want because of freedom of speech. Why does my rural community need more than one Baptist church? Freedom of religion. Our rights are granted to us by our existence. They are not granted to us by the government, nor are they subject to the opinion of other people who may disagree with them.

UPDATE: Well, this is embarrassing. Here are three more plus a reciprocating saw I forgot to include in the picture. I’m up to 14 saws now. I started with 9 and thought I only had 5!

  • Reciprocating saw (not shown) - I’ve used that cut out an “S trap” while renovating a bathroom.
  • Jigsaw - Not used much and old as the hills. But I’ve got it in case I need it.
  • Miter saw - perhaps my most-used saw of them all. Bought to do the trim around doors, windows and walls since contractors hate doing that.
  • Circular saw - used for board cutting.
