My biggest annoyance is that the hero/ heroine does EVERYTHING. If they are a surgeon (usually) they also instruct the cardiologists in cardiology, they tell the radiologists how they have gone wrong interpreting the scans. Obstetricians do lumbar punctures. Orthopedic surgeons do craniotomies. Interns do advanced procedures on their own. Many specialties don’t exist on tv (pathology, radiology, anaesthesia).
As an anesthesiologist I watched on tv the other day as the surgeon diagnosed then instructed the anaesthesist how to treat malignant hyperthermia. This was so inaccurate as to be hilarious (““temperature is rising, CO2 going up, strong family history deaths under anesthesia.,.,.. what could this possibly be??).
Modern medicine is a specialized profession. No matter how amazing you are once you set foot outside your specialty you are mostly useless. Half your time managing any seriously sick patient should be spent on the phone getting help.
