The short answer is ‘Yes.’
I have personally known several fully-awakened sages who got addicted to nicotine before awakening, and continued to smoke for pleasure after awakening.
Sri Nisargadatta smoked till very nearly the end of his life. Few who know his teachings would doubt he was fully-awakened.
The body mind is just…the body-mind. Whatever was going on with it prior to awakening quite often continues afterward. Awakening does not take place in the realm of the body-mind, so it doesn’t matter.
Another way to look at it is, Can awakened people still occasionally suffer from diseases, from cancer? Can they still suffer from “death?” Look through a list of the last century’s awakened sages and you’ll find, the answer is overwhelmingly ‘Yes.’
All body functions continue, including residual chemicals in the system that call for more of the same (addiction,) until our allotted time is up here.
Perhaps an awakened person might have more “spiritual will” and access to higher energy vibrations, so that they could heal their addictions…but very few do this. That’s because they’re not too interested in healing the illusory body-mind, knowing they are Pure Consciousness and not that.
