Those working for these companies normally have quite a lot of options and are normally getting paid a good enough salary that they can have the luxury of being picky on what they work on.
- A lot of people working for these companies are also looking to make an impact, the type of impact you can make in these companies is normally more on micro-impact at extremely large scale, those wanting to rather have a broader impact might be left somewhat unfulfilled. Some people are working for months on optimizing a screen, where in some companies you would build an application or a website in the same time.
- The pace at which things can happen in these companies although fast, can be somewhat slower than in startups, and if you are in Silicon Valley, the number of well funded startups that can pay you a good salary is not that limited. You get the chance of working for a rocket ship, without much of the risk.
- With regards to compensation and benefits, in a lot of tech giants, the pay is normally weighted with a 4 years stock components, which also influence retention past the 4 year mark.
- There is also an extremely high competition for tech talent, so while the pay and benefits are good in any of these companies, the others might be looking to hire the same people at a premium
