My society has always told me “if a person is one day older than you, they know more than you do”. This has turned out to be a big lie or at least a wrong and generalized assumption and a way to have control over younger people’s lives.

I believe age does matter in the sense that the older you grow the more likely you are to learn more and develop, but it's not a rule at all that elders know more. With today's revolution of telecommunications, media and education, younger generations tend to know much more than previous ones. For example, a generation or two ago the whole Western world used to believe in white people’s supremacy over colored ones. People were narrow-minded, mono-cultural and widely biased and irrational. Most societies and communities were blindfolded by their leaders and elders. Whereas, nowadays, everyone can have easier access to knowledge and information and critical thinking and research have become the norm. People are more individual than ever and being an individual has proved to be wiser than the herd culture widespread until recently.

Moreover, at the personal level, every person is a peculiar case. I know so many people who don't grow mentally, emotionally or intellectually after a certain age. There are millions of young people who aren't only more knowledgeable but insightful and they revolutionize ways of thinking and doing things.

Believeing that age alone makes a person trustworthy as a source of information and advice made the world have the least respect for young people and kids. It left little room for realization of personal differences and appreciation of one's being regardless to their age.

I learn from younger people every day and look at them as the future.
