First the verse.
John 9:39 (KJV) -
39 And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
And then the question.
who is Jesus "judging"?
Dear reader, please look at this verse again as it does not in any way say that Jesus came to judge the world.
That would be in total contradiction to these words spoken by Jesus.
John 12:47A (KJV) - And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world,…
It is more than abundantly clear based on the above verse that Jesus had no desire or interest to judge the world.
How can we know what the reason for Jesus coming to the world was?
Simply by finishing this verse.
John 12:47 (KJV) - … but to save the world.
It would behoove the reader to understand who these words are spoken to.
John 9:34-38 (KJV) -
34 They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.
35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?
36 He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?
37 And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.
38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.
Apparently, someone had gotten themselves into a spot of trouble with someone of some authority.
Who were those that were passing judgment on this one and thus doing the casting out?
John 9:15 (KJV) - Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.
So this man was having judgment passed on him by human Pharisees, not Jesus.
In fact, Jesus was involved.
Here’s how:
John 9:6-7 (KJV) -
6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
He came to open the eyes of those who would but see.
John 12:44-45 (KJV) -
44 Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
What Does the Bible Say About Seeing Jesus?
In the case of this blind man, it was quite literal.
Even the disciples of Jesus were tempted to pass judgment on this blind man.
John 9:2 (KJV) - And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
But fortunately, they desired far more to know Jesus as best they could.
John 9:3 (KJV) - Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
Even in the reply of Jesus to His disciples, He did not judge them for their misunderstanding but rather worked with them right where they were while encouraging them forward to a new start just as He did here.
John 8:10-11 (KJV) -
10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
It seems everyone is passing judgment.
Disciples.
Pharisees.
Even the blind man as he cast a most favorable focus upon who Jesus was.
John 9:30-33 (KJV) -
30 The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.
31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
32 Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.
33 If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.
In fact, everyone involved is judging.
Everyone but Jesus.
And this is the point of the verse.
John 9:39A (KJV) - And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, …
Because of all the judgmental bigotry taking place Jesus has come into the world.
Isaiah 42:7 (KJV) - To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
He did not come to participate in the same but rather to expose it.
Ephesians 5:11 (KJV) - And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
Not surprisingly given the context of the circumstances involved the rhetoric of this verse revolves around the capability to see or not to see and that is the question.
John 9:39B (KJV) - …that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
And this is the reason Jesus came into the world.
Of course, this statement could not be made full without a rebuke from the very ones that instigated this man’s casting out in the first place.
John 9:40 (KJV) - And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
Please note, the blind man now sees yet from within their focus of judgmentalism he is still blind.
2 Corinthians 4:4 (KJV) - In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Even within this vantage point, Jesus would find no position for judgementalism but rather a cry to their heart for repentance unto salvation.
John 9:41 (KJV) - Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.
The fact is, Jesus does not even cast judgment upon Lucifer.
Jude 9 (KJV) - Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.
He has no reason to do so.
Lucifer does that quite well all by Himself.
The question now becomes what will you do with your own eyesight?
Will you take on the character of the Devil casting evil judgmentalism wherever you turn?
John 8:44 (KJV) - Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it
Or will you turn to the agape love of the Father God and His precious only begotten Son, Jesus Christ as seen best during His crucifixion?
Luke 23:34 (KJV) - Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
Ezekiel 33:11 (KJV) - Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
