10/23/2020: All Oak trees produce acorns There are two groups of Oak trees, Red Oaks and White Oaks. Red Oaks have more Tannins and cannot be eaten without removing this bitter stuff through extensive soaking and rinsing after grinding. White Oaks are “sweeter” than Red Oaks, (are might still be a bit bitter) but can generally be eaten by humans. HOWEVER, “Cork Oaks”, (Quercus suber L., of the white oaks) have acorns which can be peeled and eaten raw by humans, and when simply boiled taste like traditional wintertime Chestnuts, with a sweet/starchy taste (very tasty).
