My dad has a group of friends that meets every Tuesday. They've been doing this for as long as I can remember.

One of the people in that group started a sea logistics company a while back, and while I don't know how much he's worth now, it's probably at least in the hundreds of millions. He was the guy who sold Neymar’s latest yacht to him because he bought a bigger one.

A while after his company became successful and he became rich, he stopped coming to the gatherings on Tuesdays. My dad asked him why, and he said it was because every time he went his “friends” would ask him for loans, investments or favors, and it became uncomfortable for him.

He’s still friends with my dad (who's not poor, but middle class), so yes, he is friends with people much poorer than him, but he's very attentive with who he befriends now, as a lot of people are just trying to get close to him for his money.
