I bought a Macbook last year. Not expensive for some, but for a newly-employed contractual government worker, that was something I had saved on for a year.
Now, according to the tech, I had to buy a new LCD that was worth a new laptop but not an Apple product, though.
I can’t afford to buy anything right now because I am saving for my migration money. And, I weep almost every time I remember my Mac.
The first thing that I bought from my own pocket. I feel even sadder because I am typing this answer from my android phone.
What makes it more painful is that I have lots of writes up, files, and pictures in that thing. It was my virtual world, my go-to-friend if I am alone at coffee shops, my study buddy and my type-writer for Quora (I bought it also for the keyboard light).
Now, it’s gone. Sometimes, I just thought that maybe I should have bought a cheaper laptop so that it won’t be as heartbreaking as this. I was expecting this to last for at least 10 years because I was told so, and I have seen so. But, no, and now I regret I bought it.
Update: after 2 months
I think I have to share this Macbook journey, so I updated my answer.
I am typing now on my Macbook Air the same one in the picture, which for a non-techie person like me sounds like a miracle.
When that thing happened on my screen, I went to a laptop repair shop. They diagnosed my Mac, and cleaned it, and said that I have to get a new LCD again. I had to bring my laptop home sobbing because I cannot afford what they asked. The price was like buying a new laptop again, but not Mac of course, yet you can buy from a decent brand.
I never tried opening it again for more than a month because it keeps on reminding me how awful my choices were.
Then, one day a technician in our neighborhood learned about my demise and he was curious and wanted to see what was wrong. He never opened the laptop case. He just said the same thing that I heard from the lady in the repair shop in the mall. But, he also said that I have to open my Mac once or twice a week so as not to ruin the battery.
I listened to his advice. After my 2nd open in the week, I saw the display in my Mac but it was too white. Still, I have to open it because I might be able to afford one day to get the LCD changed.
I think that was after my 5th powering on of the Mac, when voila, a screen like nothing had happened like no drama was involved.
I don’t know what it was all about, maybe my Mac was dirty and it only needed cleaning, or maybe it just needs a rest, or maybe because I removed the plastic cover or maybe it was some sort of a miracle.
It’s been two weeks great, I still fear that it might happen again, so I changed the wallpaper background dark, and all of my apps are on night mode. So, I can maybe see a little when it turned white again.
P.S. Thanks to all who read this and made an effort to help and comfort me.
