I had applied for internship at Microsoft (SWE Intern '16) and Amazon (SDE Intern '17).
- This resume is from when I was in 5th Semester. Microsoft had been on campus for Interns.
- I basically had nothing at that time to construct a good looking resume apart from my test scores and a few competitions.
- The biggest takeaway is that the interviewers did not question me anything on my resume since there was nothing fancy. I was strictly judged on the basis of a few programming questions.
- I was not very confident of a few small projects that I had done. And I decided to exlude them from the resume. In my opinion, anything that you are not confident about should not make it to your resume.
- I applied to Amazon off campus. I was in my 7th Semester and by now had a few things to fill my resume.
- By now, there were a lot of things to be put in the resume. I had to pick the ones which were the best indicators of my abilities.
- I had moved to using a Latex formatter instead of a free online resume creator.
Overall, resumes should evolve depending on where you are applying to. Ensure that it's a single page and precise because the recruiter will probably have less than a minute to glance at your resume. Be absolutely honest with what you put in your resume. You would be tempted to include things for the sake of it. However, it is worth resisting this temptation.
