I short answer is, I don’t know.

Would you buy a car that was missing 3 wheels and had no engine?

SEO is a lot like that car, it is just 1 single part of an effective marketing system.

Without knowing what the rest of your marketing system looks like, or if you even have one, makes it impossible to give you a usable answer.

If I am to make an educated guess, just the fact you are on a forum asking about SEO, suggests you do not have the rest of a marketing system in place that would make SEO useful to you.

A trustworthy SEO company should have case studies, client testimonials, and success stories showcasing their ability to improve rankings and traffic. Checking their past work helps verify their expertise.

2. Customized Strategies

Every business has unique goals, so I avoid agencies that offer generic solutions. A good SEO company conducts in-depth website audits, competitor analysis, and keyword research to create tailored strategies.

3. White-Hat Practices

Ethical SEO techniques are crucial for sustainable growth. I ensure the company follows white-hat SEO methods like high-quality content creation, proper link-building, and adherence to Google’s guidelines to avoid penalties.

4. Transparent Reporting

Regular updates and detailed reports on website performance, keyword rankings, and traffic trends are essential. A reputable SEO company provides clear insights rather than vague promises.

5. Comprehensive Services

SEO involves multiple components, including on-page optimization, technical SEO, link building, and content marketing. I prefer companies that offer a full range of services to strengthen my overall online presence.

6. Realistic Promises

SEO is a long-term investment, so I’m cautious of agencies that guarantee instant top rankings. A reliable company sets realistic goals and focuses on steady, sustainable growth.

7. Strong Communication

Clear and open communication is essential. I ensure the SEO company provides ongoing support, answers queries promptly, and aligns strategies with my business objectives.

A reliable SEO company should offer ethical, data-driven strategies, maintain transparency, and prioritize long-term success. By evaluating their track record, communication, and service quality, I can choose an agency that genuinely enhances my website’s performance.

Compare pricing and services from multiple agencies to find the best value for your money. Look for businesses that provide personalized plans rather than one-size-fits-all packages. Engaging Your Employees/Vendors/Execs/Stakeholders, etc. First!

One of the best strategies to SEO a company page is to get stakeholders involved. Their engagement with your page will speak volumes and show the LinkedIn Algorithm that your company deserves visibility.

Keyword Research

Identify the keywords and phrases relevant to your brand as you relate to your target audience. These could include job titles, skills, certifications, problems, solutions, or industry-specific terms.

If you've heard bad things about keyword-focused SEO, don't throw the search terms out with the bath water. Keywords are just data-backed representations of what people search for.

Social Listening

Follow top people and pages related to your brand. Learn what they're doing to grow their own brands. Follow topics, keywords, and hashtags you plan to build your brand around. Get ideas. See what works.

Don't skip this step.

It's different for every brand, industry, and audience, so there's no one list of best practices to optimize your pages.

Optimizing Your Company Page

Incorporate the keywords plus the ideas you gleaned from social listening strategically throughout your profile, including in your headline, summary, experience section, and skills.

Make sure your profile accurately reflects your expertise and the value you bring to your target audience. Don't forget the visuals here. What did you learn during social listening?

Most people winning on LinkedIn are visual. Images speak louder than words.

  2. Search volume: The keywords should have a decent search volume, which means that people are actively searching for those keywords. However, the SEO company should also consider the competition for those keywords, as highly competitive keywords may be difficult to rank for.
  3. Intent: The SEO company should consider the intent behind the keywords. Are people searching for those keywords looking to buy a product or simply seeking information? Choosing keywords with a clear intent can help attract more qualified traffic to the website.
  4. Long-tail keywords: Long-tail keywords are longer, more specific phrases that are less competitive but can still attract targeted traffic. The SEO company should consider using a mix of short-tail and long-tail keywords for the best results.
  5. Geographic location: If the website is targeting a specific geographic location, the SEO company should consider using location-specific keywords to attract local traffic.
  6. Competitor analysis: The SEO company should research the keywords that competitors are using and consider using similar keywords to stay competitive.
  7. User search behavior: The SEO company should consider how users search for products or services in the industry, including any industry-specific jargon or terminology that may be used.

  • Rigorously fact check all content you put out there.
  • Say something new in your niche; produce original research.
  • Don’t just regurgitate facts, but go out and find the data yourself. Become an expert in your field and not just a follower.
  • Do Google Cameos - if you get the invite.
  • (Ideally) Attack content marketing from all angles - do youtube content, podcasts, blog posts, or white papers to expand your reach.
  • If you have a blog, make sure you include an author bio and a headshot for every post. This can show the necessary training and education (formal or informal) to show that Google can trust the information.
  • Don’t solely rely on Upwork or freelancing sites for the majority of your content. You need to ensure you have enough time to fact check and improve the quality of the writing.
  • Proudly display awards, distinguishments, or qualifications that can help Google place you as “qualified.”
  • Get quality backlinks from authorities in your industry - or publications that have a lot of journalistic integrity.

These will all contribute to a positive authority (reputation in the industry).

Ways to improve Authority (Perception + Reputation) -

  • Good content and real expertise will mean you become an authority in your industry.
  • Produce quality content that makes the rounds and gets readily shared.
  • Get regular press. You can control the narrative with press releases, but doing good deeds, winning awards, going on podcasts, shows, or getting featured posts on different sites will show you are a reputable, authoritative contributor to your industry.
  • Reviews and testimonials from real users that show you know your business in and out.

Ways to improve Trustworthiness -

  • Testimonials and reviews can not only increase authority but also trust.

After all, how many Amazon providers do you use just because they have higher reviews? I know that personally, I trust a “good condition” description for a book from a highly rated book provider.

  • Trustworthiness also has a lot to do with site security. Make sure you use HTTPS over HTTP by getting the proper SSL certification (really easy these days!). HTTPS is vital for keeping sensitive information secure.
  • Consistency can contribute to trustworthiness. If you are consistently pumping out incredible, fact-checked information, people will start to trust your expertise. You become an authority that cares about your product/content/discipline.
  • Build up a good reputation by not misleading users. Don’t use clickbait or spammy techniques. Show that you want to provide value to your users and not manipulate them.

I hope this helped.

Unless you have a massive food blog I advise that you to try to optimize your site yourself. SEO is a long-term project and a good SEO company can run you a couple thousand dollars monthly.

You can’t just optimize a blog once and forget about it.

Most SEO tactics yield results with consistent, long-term application so unless you’re willing to pay an SEO company almost every month, you should probably consider learning at least the basics.

However, if for some reason you would still rather hire an SEO company I advise that you do a bit of self-educating beforehand. Why? Here’s what I’ve found out:

Unless you have a massive food blog I advise that you to try to optimize your site yourself. SEO is a long-term project and a good SEO company can run you a couple thousand dollars monthly.

You can’t just optimize a blog once and forget about it.

Most SEO tactics yield results with consistent, long-term application so unless you’re willing to pay an SEO company almost every month, you should probably consider learning at least the basics.

However, if for some reason you would still rather hire an SEO company I advise that you do a bit of self-educating beforehand. Why? Here’s what I’ve found out:

A LOT of SEO ‘specialists’ have absolutely no idea what they’re doing. They read about SEO on two blogs and figure “Well, doesn’t sound too hard!”. The next day they start a website, open a LinkedIn profile and call themselves specialists.

Then what happens? They book a client and fumble around for months achieving absolutely nothing. The client on the other hand never catches on cause he/she doesn’t know any better.

This happened to a friend of mine. He told me he had hired an SEO company to work on his website so I offered to look over the project. Turns out they did a lot of things wrong. Sure he was ranking for his own business name (which is very unique anyway) but they made a lot of mistakes in other areas.

As a freelance blogger, one thing I picked up on immediately was the blog they had set up for him. They were targeting a bunch of irrelevant keywords so even if he somehow managed to rank in the SERP’s, he would still rank for all the wrong keywords!

The kicker? When I started asking him questions about why they did certain things certain ways he couldn’t even explain cause they had just thrown a bunch of big words at him during consultation.

This is not to say that all SEO specialists must have a ton of experience or a roster of high-paying previous clients. There are some great SEO’s who are self-educated, just starting out and will do a terrific job. The key is to have enough knowledge as a client to differentiate between which is the former or latter.

To prevent yourself from making the same mistake as my friend here are some factors you should take into consideration when hiring:

  1. Previous client work: Ask about previous clients and google them to see if their content ranks high. If they couldn’t get their previous clients to rank, they sure as hell can’t do it for you.
  2. Can the company explain in plain terms what they’re going to do for you and how they’re going to do it?: Be wary of SEO companies that throw around big words without any explanation of how they translate into actual benefits for your site.
  3. Will they keep you informed on their progress?: It’s important to work with an agency that carries you along the process of optimizing your website. After all, it’s your site so it only makes sense that you’re abreast of their progress.
  4. Can they give you a time-frame for results?: Now this can go two ways. If an SEO company promises results in two days you might need to pause and have a rethink. Sure there are quick wins but it’s important to make sure that the consultant isn’t just trying to entice you into making a payment. On the other hand if the agency is being wishy- washy about when you’re likely to see results, you should probably move on. With past experience and expertise a consultant should be able to give you some kind of time estimate.

Bearing the above points in mind, here’s two ways you can go about finding an SEO company:

  1. Look for a referral: I think this is probably the best way to go about looking for an SEO company. As a blogger you probably have a few contacts whose sites are ranking well on Google. Reach out to them and ask if they worked with any specialists.
  2. Hop on Google: Google SEO companies, go through their websites, previous clients and ask for a consultation. Listen carefully to what they have to say, don’t be afraid to ask questions and take your time making an informed decision.

The most important thing when looking for an SEO company isn’t focusing on your niche but instead focusing on the expertise of the consultants and what they can specifically do for you.

It's an acronym for "search engine optimization". Essentially, you're optimizing the website so that it will rank higher in Google or other search engine result pages. You can do this by using keywords, shortening URLs, and adding tags to parts of the webpage.

The key with SEO is to give high-ranking websites what they're looking for--links back to your site (leveraging anchor text).
