The Joey Tribbiani character is actually the worst human being in the group.

He is dimwitted. He is selfish. He is a hypocrite. He is greedy. He is misogynistic. He is cowardly.

The dimwitted aspect speaks for itself.

He was nothing but selfish when he first got his Days of Our Lives acting gig and moved out on Chandler instead of repaying him for all of his support. Even when he landed a supporting role in a major motion picture, opposite Gary Oldham’s chatacter, he refused to pay Chandler back. He, twice, went after his best friend’s soulmate. Right after Rachel had his best friend’s baby, he actively prevented them from reuniting by refusing to allow them the privacy to work things out. Contrast Joey’s behavior when Ross dated Kirsten, whom Joey also wanted to date, against when Joey dated Charlie, whom Ross wanted to date. Where Joey crashed Ross’ date with Kirsten and insulted him, ultimately driving Kirsten away, Ross actively tried to help Joey with his date with Charlie. Ross wrote out notes on points of interest at the Met. He sat down with Joey and helped him memorize notes for Joey’s date. When Charlie came back with doubts about Joey after the date, it was Ross who argued on Joey’s behalf. Joey, who has the confidence to get any woman he wants, selfishly chooses to sabotage Ross’ date rather than go after a different woman.

He is a hypocrite because, after telling Chandler to let Janice go so as to not prevent her from reuniting with her family, he starts trying to date his best friend’s baby’s mother.

He is greedy because he steals and eats up Monica’s food, but won’t share his. He won’t share his sandwich with Chandler. He eats whole turkeys and two pizzas at a time.

He is a raging misogynist. He sleeps with women and refuses to call them back. He lies on two women, calling them thieves because he slept with them, didn’t call them back and doesn’t want them invited to a party the friends are hosting. He slept with the understudy of one of his plays and dumped her immediately afterwards. He shamed a woman for allegedly sleeping with him and forgetting him, when it was he who forgot that he slept with her roommate. He strips naked in Monica’s apartment expecting to screw her only minutes after first being invited in to her apartment. He hits on Rachel while she is still in her wedding dress from leaving Barry at the altar. He constantly tries to unhook Rachel’s bra whenever he hugs her. He tries to get a female roommate once Chandler moves out just so he can screw her. He disabled the bathroom locks once Rachel moves in. He also removes the shower curtain. He slept with Chandler and Monica’s adoption agent and refused to call her back.

Additionally, he is cowardly. Upon insisting that Ross make a list between Julie and Rachel, and adding to it, he runs out of the apartment after stupidly staring at it and allowing Rachel to grab it. Then, instead standing up and taking the heat off of Ross and admitting to pushing him to make it, he just runs out of the apartment, ruining their relationship and leaving them both needlessly devastated. Some Stand Up Guy.

Finally, people who watch the show and claim that Rachel should have ended up with Joey, instead of Ross, are truly disrespecting Rachel. Selling her out to a serial womanizer because Ross wasn’t cool enough, is an unfortunate point of view.

Having said all of the above, the show would have been a lot less entertaining without Joey!
