There are certain armies that excel and achieve remarkable and strategic victories.

The Israeli Defence Forces is one army that springs to mind.

The Most important thing to note about them is that - They dont talk or brag. They never even take credit for their achievements be it the 1981 destruction of the Iraqi Nuclear Reactor or the Syrian Nuclear Reactor. The World takes note of their actions and gives them the credit due.

This is an Israeli General. A Few years ago - when there was some trouble by the neighboring countries and a few IDF Soldiers were killed - the Media (Mostly American) asked him many, many questions and he only had one answer WE WILL RESPONSE (In poor english of course).

Ten days latter- Israeli Troops flattened the enemy, took a massive chunk of territory and sent the remaining enemies packing.

They never talk of boast. They never underestimate even the weakest soldier. They never celebrate even when they have won a major battle or war.

Sadly, very sadly - our Indian Army could never adopt the Israeli way or even the British way (Old Boy method) in terms of attitude. In this we adopted the Arab method of warfare which includes: Boasting prematurely, Thoroughly underestimating every enemy on earth, Talking to the Media, Repeatedly trying to “Prove” their achievements with unreliable or questionable evidence and then screaming “anti nationalism” to those who ask those questions.This has been particularly prevalent since 2014.

Army Generals like Sundarjee or SAM or even JJS never spoke to the Media except to say “We have talked to the Defence Minister” or “We have given our report to the Defense Ministry and the High Command” . They have been replaced by Army Generals who not only talk to the Press about Military Strategy but also about how well the Government is doing.

General M M Narvane is an exception. He is a quiet man of force. When he was asked about Balakot - his answer was astonishing “You will be hearing an announcement from the Government shortly. Its not my place to brief you on such affairs”

He never Talks or boasts. He doesnt deride Pakistan or China. He doesnt underestimate either country. Even after 29th/30th August - he doesnt celebrate. He is always watching cautiously.

Thats an Israeli General all the way.

Unlike his illustrious CDS who talks 10 sentences a minute, Threatens China and Pakistan all the time and even Praises the CAA - this General (Narvane) is neutral and has only one loyalty - India. Not Modi, Not BJP, Not Congress but India.

That is Minister of Defense material, That is even Presidential Material.

The India-China Affair

For 4.5 months - you have had the Chinese moving in belligerently from area to area with impunity on no mans land.

You have had worthless talks on a daily basis.

You had General Rawat screaming and making nonsensical threats and fortifying the E.side of Panjong Tso and the Chinese Generals screaming about Territorial Invasion.

All the while - the Southern Side was exposed. And it was Indian Territory. And it was Flatter Terrain than the other side which means if the Chinese take over this Flank - its Game Over.

While Rawat was threatening Pakistan and Modi was preaching to buy Thanjavur toys and adopt dogs and the Chief Ministers were backbiting each other and the Media was rejoicing Rhea Chakraborty being “Slapped” by the CBI

General Narvane realized the weakness and mobilized the men under his commanders to spend 6 hours in occupying the Southern Flank with a massive force.

By the Time the Chinese got there - The Indians were waiting. It was either a full pitched battle where the Indians outnumbered the Chinese 2:1 or a humiliating retreat.

Slowly the Chinese fuming - retreated. They were outmanouvered. A regular occurence for Israelis but a very rare occurence for the Indians.

The message was clear- a Strategic point was gained and future losses of Indian Territories certainly stopped with a Full Stop.

Yet Narvane also gave a message to his commanders- DON’T MOCK THEM OR LAUGH AT THEM WHEN THEY RETREAT.

So the Indian Soldiers did not sing Vande Mataram or Jana Gana Mana but kept quiet and were dignified as the Chinese retreated. Again a stamp of class.

On Friday ,you had a news debate where Former Army officers praised the move which is how I learned what must have happened.

This is what they said although i am criticizing Rawat which they wisely avoided

Rawat postured, talked and kept fortifying the opposite side of the lake. Had he had his way - China would have come through the South and it would have been Game Over - just like it was for the British in Singapore.

Narvane delivered. He ensured that this talk and distract and advance attitude of the chinese was stamped out and instead he was ready to meet them and stare them in the face.

In my opinion-

This is a man China understands. Someone who talks and brags and whose strategy is as dense as theirs involving rousing speeches and rhetoric rather than applications. This is how Chinese or Egyptian Generals talk and act.

This is a man China is worried about. Someone who quietly keeps on thinking and analyzing their moves and goes to counter it. This is a new quality, something India hasnt seen at least since JJS.

Narvane could be Defence Minister or Even Prime Minister. He has the right attitude.

I just hope to God - the Present Govt. doesn't replace him with another lackey or stooge.
