Actually such sickle- or scimitar-style swords (Egyptian ḫopeš ) have continued in use on into recent times [1]: Greek kopis, Persian scimitar (šafšēr “lion’s claw” > šimšir, šamšir), French falx, falchion, fauchon “sickle-sword, machete”; French cimeterre; Italian scimitarra; Hebrew kîdôn “scimitar.”[2]
